Spanish Shawl, Trailing Princess Flower (Centradenia floribunda)

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi Joy,
It's been suggested that your photo might be http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59506/. Apparently this species has 5 petals and we are trying to get it all sorted out. The common name seems to have thrown everybody off. If you have any input it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Peggy

Really? Well this is what the tag called it when I bought it. Guess it must have been mis-named then?

Hi Joy,
That does happen (mistakes on labels).

There are (at least) three different genus/species called Spanish Shawl. They are all in the same Family, but two have 4 petals, one has 5 petals. That seems odd to me, usually the symmetry-number is the same throughout a Family, but that is what my research has lead me to believe. And the pics for this Dissotis showed some of both, or rather all three!

Mystic is looking for you to agree to its being moved, or contest it with "facts". I had one of the four-petaled species some time ago, and I don't even know which one. It was BDG (before Dave's Garden).

I was the one who noticed the incongruity, and pursued it with help from Metrosideros (Dave) a member from Hawaii who knows heaps about warm-weather plants. So if you don't mind, Mystic will move your photo.

Of course. Remove it if it's not right. I no longer have the plant and can't prove if it's right or wrong. Probably couldn't even if I did have it. :-)

Thank you both. It's been moved.
