Found some great bargins over the weekend..found Blue walking iris, mexican bauhinia, and jewel of burma ginger.

Is the walking Iris totally blue? I have yellow and one that has a white petal with a tint of blue but have never seen a blue... pod

Hmm...I'd be interested to hear how your mexican bauhinia is doing, Moodene...since I'm growing some from seed right now. I have some lovely seedlings.. :)

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

yes, there is an all blue. doesn't bloom as profusely as the white w/ blue tinge. we had a coop last year that included this plant and I was lucky to get some. It also isn't as vigorous as all yellow or the white/blue and I wish it were because I believe it is the prettiest.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I will have to locate a blue one. I do agree the yellow is prolific. The white N. gracilis is a slow second. I was amazed to have sporadic blooms all winter from the yellow while it was sheltered.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Moodene,...is Elaine on the left or right....if I'm coming from Lake Houston/Huffman towards Dayton on 1960?
(Is she possibly on the right ....just before coming into Dayton? There use to be a great little nursery there about 8 yrs ago....back when we use to live in Liberty)
I'll be sure to stop by soon!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow I missed that one somehow. I use to go out that way on occasion and I sure would have stopped. We use to fish off the bridge years ago when it was allowed. I like that part of the country with the tall tall pine trees and the lake is just so inviting. It is so nice just thinking about it I would like to go back for a visit....
Thanks for the post it is a place I will be looking to visit soon.

I heard from a DG'r who thought the picture of yellow walking iris was 'yellow flag'. I realize that this picture of the bloom may have looked that way as I took a closeup of the delicate bloom. The plant is the Neomarica Longifolia, yellow walking iris. It is kept in a hanging basket for winter protection here. As a result, it doesn't get as large as PF states. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/48937/index.html
It is a prolific bloomer with many plantlets. I will gladly share for the cost of postage if anyone is interested. pod

Podster I have the blue ... never seen a yellow one. Last year I had it in a protected area ... now that they cut down the trees, hopefully it will come back ... I will love a couple of shoots.:)

Sylvia, I will gladly share, please dmail me. Odd how I'd never seen a solid blue one till mentioned here. I have the white with blue http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2108/index.html
but it hasn't bloomed well this year. I haven't left either one out thru winter as they are less hardy. I have a small shelter and when I moved this one in last fall, it started blooming ( for the 1st time ) and hasn't quit yet.

Dallas, TX

Pod I've had this plant three times. The first I bought at a garden show. It was blue and a lot bigger than the ones I've had later. It was a lot hardier. I started shoots for everyone and gave it as gifts. I lost that one because I thought after three or four years nothing could kill it. The second one was from New Orleans and the thrid from Florida. The one( I think) I have now is white with purple flowers. We will see int the spring. meantime I am going to email my friend in FL for more. and I Dmail you my address.
Thanks Pod

I will need to make a run to her place. Does she propagate and grow her own plants?

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

If you are traveling from Huffman, her place is on the right..if you are coming from Dayton, her place is on the left..She has a sign out front near the road...She has gotten more stuff in since the last time we talked..lol..

does anyone know of an organization or club where avid gardeners get together weekly, monthly, semi annually or whatever?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Houston Garden Club--we have a website:
http://www.gchouston.org/

We meet in Herman Park--we also sponser alot of the federally endangered native plants at the Mercer Arboretum's endangered plant gardens. The high-point of our year is rapidly approaching--the Houston Bulb and Plant Mart. C'mon down--we'd love to have you join. I've been a member for 20 years now.
