The hubby & I drove northward to Jerry's jungle yesterday morning for the sale - it was fantastic! It's too cool what they've done with that space... wierd and wild stuff growing everywhere! One big drawback, though, was that I (being a big dummy) forgot to bring mosquito repellant, and they were on me quicker than a pack of rabid dogs... what am I to you anyway, just a piece of meat?? Well, if I come down with West Nile, at least I picked up some sweet plants, lol...
I have to say that I didn't know what the vast majority of those plants were - which made me feel kind of stupid - but everyone there was extraordinarily nice & helpful (they assured me that I wasn't the only ignorant one to pass through their garden!). Also, I thought the prices were VERY reasonable - perhaps since my frame of reference is nurseries inside the loop (ahem, *Buchanan's*, ahem...)
Here's what I picked up for $38...
• 1 gal. bleeding heart
• 1 gal. "pencil tree" (a cactus/succulent - not sure if that's the "correct" name, but that's what I call it... lol)
• 1 gal. bellyache bush
• smallish (quart?) shrimp plant
• 1 gal. ???
** Please help, if you have a clue what this might be (discovered it didn't have a nametag after we got home!) - it's a tropical tree (small now, obvioiusly, but I was told they can grow very tall if allowed), with long teardrop-shaped leaves that reminded me of a persian shield, except foliage color is green with veins that red and "outlined" with yellow that "bleeds" into the green part of the leaf... red is more pronounced at the leaf base, yellow shows more towards the leaf tip. I've been looking around forever - anyone have a clue ???
Anyhow, I'm off to caldwell's today... there are a few things I want, and I'm going to give in to the obsession...

Bubbles I think you nailed it... there's no entry for this one on DG, but I googled the name and am satisfied that I've got a Sanchezia noblis - very cool! I guess I will have to pot this one, since it doesn't appear to be very hardy (hardy to z10, I think).

there are two sanchezia that are grown by a local grower, the speciosa has purplish stems. I have one in the front that gets dapple sun and has survived several hours at 24 degrees.
