When the stalks started to grow, I can see where the raspberry color comes in..I love the swirl of this costus ginger...if it gives me a flower..will post that as well....

I have not seen this in flower either, Enid with Natural Selections Exotics gave me one a few months ago. The foliage and stems look a lot like Costus laevis, but it is impossible to say for sure without seeing flowers. Anybody got flower photos of this one?

I have one growing for over 2 years with no flowering, part shade. Sometimes it gets all brown and ucky and I yank it out. Considering the same for the rest.

Hi pogonantha, it is definitely closely related to C vargasii. When Mark Collins first named it he wasn't sure but he confirmed a few weeks ago in one of our conversations that it is indeed so. I originally acquired the plant in 2005 from Mark.
It still is about ready to hit the dumpster!!

mmm...I don't expect mine to flower all the time..I have had some gingers take a break now and then...
I have a few different spirals the one I want is the verigated at least the foilage is cool looking. I bought a bunch of roots at a festival year before belive it or not a year went by and nothing this year this stuff is coming. i had stakes and the names all staked out since then I have pulled most of the stakes out so now its just try to figure once they get up in size. Don't give up if the roots are old looking they will go just takes time.
