I don't have a clue what this one will bring me...It was given to me last year and I am excited about getting 4 of the bloom heads coming up..will post a pic of the flower when it does...

That's Zingiber zerumbet Pinecone/Shampoo ginger. It's wonderful, squeeze the juice from the cones, it's like glycerin. I have that and a hybrid called 'Twice as Nice' , it's shorter , a tight clumper and it blooms from the top and the bottom.

lol, when I lived in Hawaii, I lived way up a valley where there was no one, and the "shampoo" ginger was growing right by the stream and I used to wash my hair with it like the hawaiians used to. Its ok as a shampoo :) they called it awa pui ( if I remember correctly-its been a few years!) It will turn bright red and then it will ooze out the liquid.
