Rooting cane begonia

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I just got my order from Lauray of Salisbury. I was wondering if I need to bag the potted cuttings to give them
extra humidity, or if they are fine just in the pots in the greenhouse.

Patricia,
I always tent mine either in clear plastic bags or an aquarium covered with plastic, otherwise, they wilt down and look pathetic.

I slowly vent the bag until they are able to come out over a period of several days. It might be different in a greenhouse because of the higher humidity level. I don't have a greenhouse.

The canes having been super easy in water for me!

I use water with the canes also for rooting and agree with Calif gal, Sue. I don't think I've ever added anything else for humidity.

PS..Patricia, are you still into hoyas?

I never have to cover mine. I also have been able to root everything well in soil-less mix. We do have good
humidity in FL even with the A/C running.
I loved my order from Lauray of Salisbury I am going to need some more .

I had them sitting right under the misters in the greenhouse, but I was afraid I might rot them. Today they still looked fine without covering them, but I will watch them real close. Thank you all for your input.

Patricia, we keep them under misters at the Strybing greenhouse, just make sure your potting medium is well drained. We use several blends, one is a mix of mostly perlite with about 1/4 vermiculite, the others are the same ingredients just varying % of each.

Depending on how frequent the misters come on is how I would adjust the mix. If you can add bottom heat, that will speed things along too. But not necessary.

Honestly, for canes, i just plunk them down in a pot and generally get pretty good results. So you should do great!
