lunch from the veggie garden today!

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

I could not resist checking my potatoes today. They were planted the first of May (I know, a risk, considering our last frost is usually the 24th of May) because the spring peepers (frogs) had been singing for a couple of weeks, and I had some red spuds sprouting eyes. I view gardening as a game of chance, lol.

The potatoes have grown well, and started blooming about 2 weeks ago and I have been itching to check them out since then.

I dug three plants, (got about 15 spuds) and the largest potatoes were about the size of a lemon. The spuds were steamed while I picked some swiss chard, spinach, beet tops and snap peas, pulled 3 egg-sized onions and stir fried the the lot.

Yummy!

Made a very nice lunch!

Good for you, early potatoes. Worth taking the chance.

Yum Yum! congratulations on your early pick Sue.....we've just had fresh picked salad fixings here (and one small tumbler tomato). I noticed our potatoes are blooming now so it won't be much longer before we will be having creamed baby taters/peas/onions/carrots. Ü Prolly not good for the waistline but have to have it a couple of times. :)

Sounds delicious.
