Anyone around here have any luck growing gourds?

I found some gourd plants at fred meyer and put them in the ground. Is it too optomistic to think I can grow them in this area? Do you grow them and do they have to be on supports? I know there is a gourd forum but didn't see anyone from our area. Thanks, Donna

I would assume that they grow similar to punkins or squash, no??

I grew ornamental gourds last year. I grew them over an arbor, but they really didn't get all that big or tall. I ended up wish some nice gourds, tho, for all decorating, which is what I was after. I can't remember if I put any in this year or not. I may have put some in front in the middle of the pumpkin patch going up a small trellis.
