Anyone know what bee/wasp this is. There are hundreds of them and each one makes a hole in the yard. So lots of holes in the yard. They about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long and the wing are metalic blackish/purple.

Looks like one of many beneficial wasps to me.

Edited to say that these wasps are generally shy. I had said they were territorial before but I had read the wrong entry.
