Hi Everyone,
I am very new to Epies and have a question for you all. The one in the picture accidently was getting too much sun and started burning.( Someone moved the pot I have it in and I am not mentioning names LOL) As soon as I saw it I moved it to shade (with bright light). Here is a pic of what it looks like now. I am not sure if I should just let it be and see what happens or cut off the new growth and try rooting that?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks!
Lisa
Need Some Expert Advice
Are those tiny roots coming from the new growth @ the joint? I'm new too, but the old growth looks pretty fried. I'd be worried the new growth would shrivel :( I would cut it and root the new. But better to wait to hear from someone that knows what they're doing :)
Yes they are tiny roots. I have another cactus that had a run in with a weed wacker a year or so ago.( Yes same person involved with the pot moving on this one too LOL) anyway a huge chunk was cut away and I thought it was a goner but to my suprise it healed itself and kept on growing! I was wondering if this would do the same. I would hate to loose it as it is a Magic Carpet Epie and I would love to see it bloom some day.
Thanks for your input!! I appreciate it :)
I wouldn't be in any rush to chop it up. Many times leaves are damaged by one thing or another and survive just fine with only the central rib remaining to feed the new growth.
If you want to trim it because it is unsightly, I'd trim off the new growth and pot it up. Most likely you will get additional growth from the "damaged" piece by just leaving it in place. They are very resiliant plants, although not real beauties when not in flower. :-)
Ok Great! Thank You Happenstance! I shall leave it up to Mother Nature to repair. I don't mind it looking unsightly. I know one day it will have gorgeous flowers on it and be unique looking!
Thanks Again! I truly appreciate your advice :)
Lisa
