Talk about BIG.
Just wish I had grown it!! :(
The question IS, HOW do I get seeds out of it for next year?? Prolly too late for this year around here, anyway.

MONSTER Tomato
It won't breed true, blue ......hate to tell you that one!
WANNA,
No DONT SAY that!! :(( Booo HOOOO!!!!! Dare I ask WHY??

Oh, Blue - it is a genetics thing - and it would depend on the breeding stock that created this behemoth. If the tomato is a hybrid, you will have a 50% chance of getting one LIKE it - if it mated (the way it got seeds) with another one just like it. Most of us don't control the sexual activity of our tomatoes, so who knows whose pollen arrived from where?
I had a hard time convincing my dear mother of those facts as she insisted on saving seeds from her spaghetti squash. Yes - those seeds "grew" - but they didn't produce nice spaghetti squash, but rather some less desirable types of squash.
WANN,
Hmmm, interesting. It was grown commercially, so I would THINK (and I am NOT the sharpest tool in the shed, you understand), that they "made" them to be that large.
Still might be fun to TRY. 50/50 odds are pretty good, no?? lol. Even if they dont come out "true", should be some pretty good tomatos anyhow.

They did make them to be that large - that IS what the industry is all about. How they manage that, however, can't be explained in anything less than a class in genetics and probability. (yeah - I confess - I used to teach this stuff)
It may well be worth your time to go ahead and plant the seeds. Just know that the outcome is unpredictable - given you have no record of the sex life of that tomato. Consider your own children - if you have them. Do they look just LIKE you? Probably not. They have SOME of your traits - but only some. Same thing for that tomato. Genetics do have dominion over all - and just like a slot machine - ya pay yer money, ya takes yer chances.
Cloning is the only way to get 100% guarantee of outcome .... whether you are talking 'maters or humanoids.
Have fun and let us know what you get!!!!
