I have a purple duranta with white picateed edges I can trade. Also have a large variety of tropical plants. If interested, let me know and I can send a list.
Thanks.
Kay
CLOSED: Wanted: White Duranta
I am going to trim mine if you want cuttings.........
Hi Elva!
YES! I would LOVE to have your cuttings.
What kinds of plants are you looking for? Right now I have lots of different kinds of gingers....more hedychiums than others.
I have a couple of beautiful water lilies. I have lots of brug plants, but they are just now getting up out of the ground good, and it is too soon to make cuttings from them yet this year. If you are interested, I could send you cuttings later on.
I have lots of tropicals. Let me know what kinds of things you are interested in. I just might have it.
Do you want the purple picateed duranta plant?
Please let me know.
Thanks so much for your offer.
Kay
Hi Chris! That is a nice healthy-looking plant. I'd love to do you out of it.
I'm a little confused, though. Do you want my purple one? It is in bloom, kind of round where it was cut off last fall, probably a foot tall, and I'm sure has substantial roots. You are most welcome to it if you want it. What I'm confused about is that it would have to be overwintered somehow too.
Just about everything I have leans toward tropical in nature. However, I have LOTS of plants so there might be a few in there that you would like that would work for you.
Please give me some ideas. Are you into bearded iris at all? I have so beautiful ones that I just dug about a month ago waiting for the first taker that comes along. I have a couple of pink water lilies that are not tropical. I have many, many brugmansias and gingers.
I have a very flouriferous (sp??) white wisteria that blooms white in the spring and pink in the summer. It's fragrance is glorious! I believe they might work as far north as you are, since I saw a picture of one in Washington state.
Give me some ideas of your interest and then I'll look around to see what I have.
Thank you so much for your offer.
Kay
I already have the purple duranta. Too cold for them to spend the winter outside here so it comes inside.
I have a bent towards tropicals also and I already have what seems like a million plants that I bring inside with me come those chilly months. I thought about turning my entire backyard into a greenhouse but I have a feeling the city won't issue me that permit....
So as much as I'd LOVE more tropicals I think I'm at my limit ,unless you happen to have any spare bananas/plumerias, they are easy to overwinter..... :)
Otherwise bearded Iris sounds good, I was just browsing for some new ones. Can you tell me what colors they are... ?
The long shoot on the white duranta is about 21" tall with the others being only about 7" or so (just so you know what you're getting).
I also have some Hibiscus acetosella, Hibiscus coccineus , Tecoma Stans seedlings and rooted Allamanda cuttings (yellow) if you are interested.
Cris
Hi Cris,
Two of the iris are Louisiana's. They will grow well anywhere. One of them is dark purple and the other is pinkish-maroon. The tall beardeds are: light yellow, Role Model, and Thornbird (space age). I don't remember what color Role Model is, but you could probably google on the name and find it. Thornbird is sort of light greenish yellow with horns. I also have Autumn Circus which is a short bearded rebloomer. It is dark blue-purple and white splotched.
Do you have any interest in butterfly plants? I probably have some little weeping budlleia plants.
Or how about a yellow plumeria? I have not seen it bloom yet. Someone just sent it to me and yellow is just not my thing.
I know your feeling on needing to greenhouse the back yard. I have a little greenhouse, but I need another one (and I'm in zone 8). LOL
How do you overwinter bananas the easy way? I just got a few of those and figured that they'll just freeze down every year? I'd like to have some go two years to get some fruit. Not sure, but I might have a pup or two. Are you looking for any special ones?
Let me know if anything here catches your fancy.
Bananas I just dig up, shake off the rootball , wrap it in burlap and plastic and toss them in the crawlspace for the winter. You won't get fruit doing it that way but also I found them to be very easy houseplants until they get too tall..... if only I had cathedral ceilings! (They do slow way down in the winter.)
A yellow plumeria would be great.
Are you looking for anything else? I'd also like some of the lousiana iris and Autumn circus... I have loads of houseplants.. hoyas, philos, euphorbia, nematanthus... loads of seeds too - wildflowers, vines, odd things like gunnera, tree seeds ... Or lilies.. they are unnamed but I have pictures.... :)
Cris
Well, I'll be darned! I never knew that about over wintering bananas!
And YES! I'd love a start of that gunnera. I've only seen them in pictures. Do they tolerate high heat and humidity?
So what we have here is: White Duranta and Gunnera for a Yellow Plumeria and Autumn Circus, Kissee, and Purple LA Iris.
If this sounds like a deal to you, it sures sounds like a deal to me!
Kay
Get 2 gungera than I can have one Kay !
I should have worded that more carefully, I was in a hurry...I have Gunnera seeds....
I have both G. tinctoria and G. manicata seeds. I really couldn't tell you anything about them from personal experience, I haven't grown it myself yet. The package says cool summer areas and humidity ,does not describe my growing conditions.. but a girl can try and I plan on trying. :)
If you don't want the seeds I can see what else I have that may tempt you for the irises.
emh - if you'd like some seeds I could send you some.
Cris
Cris, I think I'm going to pass on the gunnera seeds if they require a cool growing area. I doubt if 97-101 would be considered cool for those purposes.
Elva, maybe you and Cris can work out a deal on them. What kinds of vines to you have? Isn't nematanthus a gesneriad? Lika a goldfish plant? If so, I might like that one.
You know, actually, I really don't need any more plants. I'm just very greedy and want everything I see. So if we can't come up with something else, I'll just trade you for the duranta plant.
And Elva, I still want your cuttings. Like I said, I'm greedy. LOL I believe in having backups for all my plants.
Kay
All your Plants went out Monday !
Elva
I have hot and humid summers and no winter to speak of.so I dont think that
Gunnera will grow here am looking for rice plant .
Elva, do you want a rice PAPER plant? If so, I've got'em. I think they do poorly in the mail unless they have been rooted for a while. If this is what you want, let me know and I'll put one in a pot and nurse if a while and send it to you after it comes out of shock.
Nematanthus is the 'gold fish' plant. I have plain Nematanthus gregarius and Tropicana. I also have an Aeschynanthus -http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/77824/index.html .
I have an itty bitty variegated tapioca. It's the tip of my small plant that broke off, it's already rooted.
Cris
Cris, is your allamanda the large flowered vine like they have in Hawaii? I've been looking for one of those. All I see here anymore are the small flowered ones.
If its the large flowered one you have, I'd love to have that one. How about that and the tapioca plant, and if it's not greedy of me, I'd love a goldfish plant. I have the lipstick and they do well here for me.
For you, I'll send the yellow plumeria, LA Iris Kissee, Unknown purple LA Iris, Autumn Circus. I have a couple of banana pups, but this is my first year with them and I don't know their names or the color of their blooms. Do you want one anyway?
If we get this all figured out soon enough, I can mail on Monday.
I bought the allamanda as 'dwarf allamanda' from a guy in Puerto Rico, I don't think it's what you are looking for but I have enough small rooted cuttings, I can send one if you want.
Don't worry about the banana pups, you are sending enough. I'll send the duranta, tapioca and goldfish plants (one of each kind?) . The tapioca is tiny, but it does have good roots now so it shouldn't take long to get to a decent size. It is one of my favorite plants, the color is great.
Cris
