My Spicebush Swallowtail

Longview, TX(Zone 8a)

She hangs around so much now, she's getting used to me and my camera. I've named her Samantha...don't ask me why, it was the first name to pop into my head. I can't believe you can even see her eyes!!

Niiiiiice shot, greenie! Those swallowtails just love the lantana. I would even go so far as to say that Samantha is posing for you. ;-))

LOL, it looks that way, doesn't it? Thanks for the compliments, both of you. She sure is pretty. I hope she spreads the lantana news to her friends! =) The lantana is out of control, btw...I was out of town for a week on business and it DOUBLED in size while I was gone. I'm going to need to cut it way back...it's crowding my Black Eyed Susan Vine and my Rajin Cajun Ruellia!!

wonderful shot. I have a lot of them to but only found one egg on my spicebush tree and the baby cat for a couple of days. Think wasp are eating my eggs

Donna, that's one reason I have my Spicebush plants in screened cages now! To keep the cats safe. The other reason is that there's been TOO many eggs! I've already raised quite a few of the cats and released many butterflies. Now my poor plants (they're no so big) just can't provide for any more. They keep trying to put out more foliage, but I'll be lucky if there's enough to feed the few cats left on the plants. So no more eggs. My plants need to recover! And I agree, greenie67, that's a good pic!
