Does anyone know what this is? I found it on my alamanda last night?
What's this a home for?
If its a dirt dobber,he is a hermit.
That's what someone else said but there nests are cylinders. I thought this was to small.
There are different species of daubers, and they build different shaped mud nests. Good guys - they provision the nests with paralyzed cut worms and spiders that their babies feed on when they hatch. They won't defend or attack like the red wasps and hornets - only to protect themselves if they feel threatened - like if you swat at them.
That's good to know. I only found the cylinder nest when I was searching.
The alamanda is sitting on my porch and i wouldn't want my Granddaughter to get stung.
