Planted Clematis with Confederate Jasmine - Is that OK?

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

I just received and planted my 2 clematis on my arbor - one on either side. I also have a Confederate Jasmine on each side. When I ordered these clematis from Debbie she was concerned about the clematis being with the jasmine as she was worried that the jasmine would over take the clematis, although she wasn't that familiar with Confederate Jasmine. What do ya'll think? Since I've just planted them, it would be easy to move them if I'm going to have a problem. Thanks in advance for the advice.

You will probably want to relocate the clematis by the time the confederation jasmine gets established. It is a fast grower and a sturdy vine. I have never grown a southern clematis but the ones up north are delicate. I am afraid in an arm wrestling match, the jasmine will win hands down. pod

I agree, the jasmine will take over eventually and overwhelm the Clematis. It's not aggressive to the point of being invasive or anything, but it's a very strong, full vine so I can't picture it sharing space well with another vine.

Boo Hoo! I guess I knew ya'll would say that. Darn! Well, since I really want something evergreen on the arbor, I may have to go ahead and move the clematis to their own spot. Wish I could come up with an idea that would be an evergreen vine with the clematis mixed. Any ideas? Guess I should post on Vines & Climbers forum.
