Plumies for sale in Freeport, FL

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

Just an FYI for anyone in this area. I stopped by Skinner's Nursery today and there were several plumerias and some already blooming! The 2'-2 1/2' ones were $25 and the ones 3'-3 1/2' were $35. They actually belonged to a gentleman that works there and he gets them from a fellow and can get them if you just call ahead. He says the supplier delivers on Tuesday or Thursday - depending on when he heads that way. If anyone wants more info call Steve at Skinner's Nursery in Freeport at 850-835-1233. I think Skinner's is letting Steve do this as a kind of "sideline". These weren't named other than by color. They were really cool and I think the price is really good.

Hi Barbara, Richlin's Nursery is also in Florida, and he is going out of business and selling his land. All his plumies are half price off his web site prices. He is not shipping any longer, and you have to call ahead for an appointment, but he promises that there are good deals to be had: http://my.enom.com/25328/page99.htm Also, both Florida Colors and Brad's Buds and Blooms are in Florida: http://www.floridacolors.com/ and http://www.bradsbudsandblooms.com/ You guys in Florida have the best plumie nurseries!

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

The nursery here in Niceville sometimes carries them although I dont think I have seen them this year. I got several of mine from a guy in Panama City. He had some named varieties and they were rooted, not just cuttings.

I sure wish I could find one that has some size to it. You know me -- "Ms. Instant Gratification". Who's the guy in PC and how big, how much, etc.?

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Just buy a celadine and treat it well.
Itll be 5 foot in 2 years or less.
It is a shame that we are losing Richlands Nursery.
He is incredible, His hybrids are terrific and so are his prices.
He is also very very generous.
The hurricanes and age have come together, too much to rebuild again.
Ill miss his incredible generosity, He was the first to send me seeds, and man did he!
If you are able to get to his place DO SO!!
Here is one of his Hybrids name S6b

Barbara, Richlin has a lot of big trees for sale at half price if you can make it to his place. Tell him that Clare and Michael sent you!

Michael, I agree that it is sad to see him leave the business. You are right that he has had a lot to contend with. I think he even got some frost damage this past winter. He has thousands of trees that are all for sale.

Clare and Michael,
I really appreciate the tip and wish I could get there, but unfortunately Ft. Pierce is about 500 miles from here down in S. Florida and I'm in the panhandle of NW Florida. Oh, well. Maybe someone else will see this post and take advantage of your "Hot Tip".

Barbara, Oh, sorry about that. I didn't realize that you were so far away. Florida is a big state like California, isn't it. How far away is Homestead (Florida Colors) or New Casselberry (Brad's Buds and Blooms)? If they are closer, you can probably get a nice sized tree from either of them.

Bob, Jennifer is in Hawaii, and Barbara mentioned she wanted a nice size tree from someone near where she lives in Florida.

Barbara, there are a few other sellers in Florida that might be able to get you a nice-sized tree, but you will probably end up paying a lot for it. Michael is right that if you buy a small one and put it in the ground and water and fertilize it faithfully, it will be a big tree in a matter of a few short years. You might consider joining the Florida Plumeria Society as there are people who advertise their trees for sale all the time: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FloridaPlumeriaSociety/

The Panhandle in NW Florida is about as far away as you can get from Homestead and still be in Florida LOL.

Ah, thanks for the map, Hetty. I am unfamiliar with the geography of Florida obviously. Well, it's a good thing that Florida Colors ships by mail!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I used to spend a lot of time in Miami with my husband on business. While he was working I would drive down to Homestead and play at nursery after nursery. It was amazing, so many plants - so little money. LOL I was always like a kid in a candy store. I would get hibiscus, orchids, bananas and whatever else. Sadly I did not know much about plumies then or I didn't think they would grow here. I've never found another place that had so many growers in such a small community. And then there were the fresh fruit shakes in all kinds of tropical flavors.

I am ready to convince DH it is time for another FL trip. Maybe with a side trip to Brad's.

Alice, that would be so neat! Ahhhh, fresh fruit shakes sound yummy! It sounds like my kind of place:-)

Thanks to all for trying to help so much! Ya'll are great! Yes, FL is like CA in that it is a long, spread out state. On the map posted, I am about 20-30 miles east of Panama City and 2 hours to Pensacola. One of these days I want to take a road trip to southern Florida and see all the heavenly things -- maybe in the fall when it cools off a bit or maybe even winter.
