Any body know about pet ducks?

I recently moved into a new home with a pond that borders the property and a creek that runs through the back. There are several ducks in the pond. Apparently the neighbors,who own the pond, own most of the ducks as well. The ducks walk right up into the yard looking for food and are quite friendly. I love to have nature all around...ducks, fish, turtles etc. He has welcomed us to put a couple of our own in the pond. Hmmm... I know nothing about this, but I would love to.
Does anyone know anything about this?
