I've been invited to make a nursery run to Rosenburg this week. I like tropicals. Does anyone know if this nursery is a good one?
Caldwell Nursery
Thanks for info! I'm trying to get trip date changed to Friday so we can do both nurseries. Appreciate the response. Sandi
www.jerrysjungle.com is the website about Jerry's sale...
This is by far the best Nursery in the area. I try and go at least one time each year. This is where I got some of my more unusual plants. My Micky Mouse EE, Pink Lantana, Chocolate Mandiva and many others. They also had Thumbergia Battiscombe in 1 gallon pots when my daughter was looking for it. No one else had it around here but them.
Kaydee is the nicest person and she is so knowlegable and helpful. They have one of the best Rose collections I have seen in many years, including many of the vintage roses.
Hope you have a wonderful trip....... take plenty of money, credit cards , etc. and buy lots of plants.Plan to spend some time there it is a pretty big place and there's lots to see.
Dee
Thanks for added information, Willow Wasp....I had hoped to get group to go Friday, so we could do both nurseries but we couldn't coordinate it. going to leave early in the morning for Rosenberg....and at your suggestion....taking credit cards and cash to buy lots of plants! (Taking botanical book too......)...Thanks again, looking forward to it....Sandi
This is my favorite nursery of all time to go to and believe me I have been to most in the area. If you can make it by Jerry's Jungle the same day you won't be sorry. Both places will be an experience you won't soon forget.
Jerry is so interesting and Caydee knows her stuff. I love being able to find plants you can't find anywhere else. At both places you will be able to do this.
Have fun.
Was a very long day of nursery shopping at Caldwell's. Thanks Larry for the directions. Next time...when I'm the driver,... I'm going that way! We went 71 out about 8 AM, and coming home we were on I10 nearing Luling, when we veered off to Bastrop? 'Navigator missed turn. Got home at 6. Made for a longer commute!!!! Fun tho...
The nursery was everything promised. We had to stop buying, as we had filled the van. One of the best nurseries I've been to in a long time. Going back for some gingers that hadn't arrived yet. Caydee was sooo nice and knowledgeable....Found plants I've seen in other established gardens, but never seen in Austin area.
We met a lady from San Antonio who'd been planning her trip there for months. She's a brug hybridizer and sells on e-Bay...think she said "Annie's Brugs." We were there till 2:30. She and her friend were still shopping....and she had filled 3 large carts last time we spotted her!
Hate having to miss Jerry's Jungle, maybe next time he's open. Sounds like a wonderful garden. Think I'm going to be grounded till I plant all this stuff.
