Passiflora Blue Bouquet

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have one planted on the east side of a building. It did very well from the end of last summer, through winter, and spring. It grew lots of new foliage and bloomed maybe 3 or 4 blossoms. Our weather has been hot and dry. The passie is still growing, but slowly, on the main part of the vine the leaves look baked and no more blooms. It has the best situation it could have here but it looks like the heat has pounded it. I was very disappointed in the frequency, or lack of it, of the flowering. Does anyone who has grown it in hot, dry climates have any counsel for me? If you have no ideas to offer, I'm considering digging it up and potting it and getting it out of the sun. I have P. caerulea not far from it, it gets sun all day, and it looks heat stressed but not like it's been cooked as this one does. It also blooms.

The blue bouquet is very pretty. I saw it in a Logee's catalog and boy, are the blooms fabulous. How disappointing that you aren't getting many blooms. I am sorry no one has any suggestions for you. I did a quick google and saw this article. Maybe with you being in Arizona it isn't getting cold enough in the winter? Just a guess. Maybe it would help if you cut it way way back in the winter? Here is the article I saw, if you are interested.

Thanks for your response.
It grew beautifully in the winter and even bloomed in the spring. I posted a similar message on the Southwest gardening forum, and I think from the responses I got there, that I wasn't giving enough water for our very hot and very dry climate. I've started with more water so I hope to see better growth. Although if this thing grows as fast as it did in the winter, I'm going to have to get out the clippers.

I don't know which Passiflora the article was talking about as any of mine that live through the winter bloom beautifully in the spring.
