Amorphophallus Konjac Floawer

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Just wondering how mature an A. konjac tuber needs to be for the plant to produce a flower. At the end of the season last year, ours was maybe 4" across - my memory is a little fuzzy about the size. It had 3 babies as well. Mother and the kids are al happy in their 4 pots this year. The original plant is now about 30" tall (and the babies 1/3 of that). I assume that the influorescence occurs before the foliage, and that we will have to wait for another year for the flower?

A. konjac flowers around May, before the leaves come up.... Your bulb should be about the right size for flowering, though.... My A. konjac plants are just babies (about 1.5 - 2" in diameter), and are just coming up out of the ground right now.....

I lost one in the ground a few years back, so these are in pots. Maybe when I get more babies, I will risk the garden again. I am sure it is a drainage thing. Anyhow, thanks for the input, Hikaro - it was as I expected, the flower coming first. Do you think that the pot culture (I stored the bulbs dry indoors for the winter) may be suppressing the flowering?
