My very first Brug bud

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

Hi all, I just have to say thanks for all the good advice and info I have got from all your posts .
If this forum hadn't been here I would never have gotten any buds at all if I had followed "someones" advice. "Someone" told me that one HAD to CUT the brugs so they formed a Y in order to get buds. Weeeeeeel reading all your post for "some" time now (all winter every day to be honest :0)) have taught me how to. Can tell you that "someone" never got hers to put up flowers.

I haven't got a clue on what colour this one is going to be, nor do I have a name for her. Last fall the neighboring gasstation/motell filed for bankruptcy and the owners left. When they had been gone for about a month a took a stroll with my dog to the back of the motell. It was late Oktober and we have had frost for over a month HARD frost. I found these pots left there. I couldn't tell if it had been Brugs or Dats. All I could see that they where all slimy of the frost. I took all seven pots home.
I didnt want them to rot so I took them out of their pots and let them dry out. Later in the winter I saw that some of them had started to grow from the root. I carfully started to water a bit so they could grow stronger and even later I cut them off the root and potted them up. Well today the first bud have started to open.

She is about 3 ft high.

They sure look healthy now. Congrats on getting your brugs and at such a good price, too. LOL!

How lucky for them that you wandered by. You must be a plant person to have such a touch. Good for you!! I hope you will post pictures when they bloom. They sure look so healthy!

Are there many brugs in Sweden?

Now that you have posted, you need to stop lurking and become a regular!

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

Brugs have become more common, at least since 2 years ago when one person in town got one enormous brug over 6 ft high with a endless show of flowers all summer long. He ended up in the local paper and since then nurseries around her have started to sell them. AND they actually tell the names on flowers now not just brug.
I did buy a "Grand Marnier" (cream colour) a couple of weeks ago and today I bought a double white "Kleine Lady" and "Goldie" (cream-apricot). me bitten by the brugbug??...........:0))

The brugbud takes her time before she reveals her true colour. This is how she looks today. The two largest I have showed pictures of have been sleeping indoors.
Kin, the sun currently shine with its absence and we have a killer wind, my son said mom better take your brugs in, I looked out and saw my babies laying horisontal by the wind. Luckely she didnt snap AND the buds where still on.
The flower is currently 8 inches and no she isnt sick the leaves have a slite paintfume damage, I just had them to close to a rater freshly painted porch

I love my son to death, he even secretly googled for greenhouses and suddenly came up and showed me some, he also told me that I need one and he would help pay if I wanted too have one. He is 21 years old.

Janett, you did great rescuing these brugs and getting them to the stage where they are now. They look wonderful and I am anxious to see pictures of your blooms. Sounds like you have a very special and loving son.

Janett, I was an exchange student on the summer program so only had a few weeks in school. Not much study going on . I was there for 3 months then returned the following year for 5 months during the winter. I was in Finland 2 years ago in April and May. I was there during the time you had an unusual warm spring in Scandinavia. It was so beautiful and could actually watch the trees grow leaves overnight. LOL
Then as you know I was there this past Christmas and had a fun filled time in the cold and snow. Here is a picture of me making an attempt at a Jumping....LOL
Gosh that snow looks good now! He he

Hope you have a photo to share of your Brug in bloom soon. It also sounds to me like you have a very thoughtful Son. How nice of him to help you out if you get a Greenhouse.
Gosh I'm sorry that photo is so Big!!

I'm so glad to see you have a bloom it's so pretty. I wonder if they know when it's night time in Sweden? Do they get mixed up and smell good all the time?? LOL So~ so happy you have a beauty to enjoy.

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

She started to smell GOOOD as soon as she was just itty bitty tiny open and smell all night long. I had my whole frontyard smelling good, no scent today. Does brugs just open one night or more.
Janett

Yours should last quite some time. The ones I had open 5 days ago started looking sad yesterday.

Sorry I didn't finish what I was typing. My cat brought a mouse indoors and had to get her and the mouse OUT!!!
You should also enjoy the wonderful fragrance for sometime also. Days of enjoyment from the single bloom.
Here is a picture from last night. I was enjoying the sky and wonderful fragrance that was filling the air.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice sky picture. It's supposed to be really hot today. I may have to come back and look at the ski jump picture to cool off.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Rolling in the snow sounds refreshing right about now. It's going to be in the mid 90's today.

You'll soon be as addicted to brugs as the rest of us. Enjoy.
