not koi.......just plain old bait goldfish.......I am Wayyyyyyyyy in the country here........racoons, deer, turtles, snakes, beaver, fox , rabbits, squirrel and an occasional bobcat....we don't keep pets for that reason.....everybody's food for something..we have adopted a live and let live policy...We were city slickers, coming here from the heart of Dallas....my 30 acres of dirt poor Oklahoma land was never inhabited by human before we bought it and made it our home...we owned the land and used it as a weekend place with a small modular home for several years before retirement 2 years ago...... then we built our home and moved here permantly.......we are in the second year of a severe drought and the wildlife seek out the ponds for survival..we have imposed on them and they tolerate us....

I don't think he was a cottonmouth better known here as a water moccasin.........my reptile books say that a water mocccasin is one of the more deadly snakes and can have a fatal bite, but most water snakes are not venomus, however they add......"they all will bite causing sever lacerations"....Ooooo yeah!

You place sounds wonderful Jackie!
The pupil looks round, from what I have heard, round pupils mean NOT venomous (I wouldnt want to get close enough to look LOL).
I have also heard if they are not venomous, they will try to get away from you.
