Well, for the past two years Darby has been tearing along the fence line everytime someone walks down the sidewalk, (or even drives a noisy vehicle past our house). The frantic barking and charging was driving me nuts, and we are working hard on breaking this screwy habit. But he has also worn a nice dirt path clear around the perimeter of the front yard. You can imagine what that looks like come winter!
I'd decided awhile back that I was going to have to pave Darby's path with stone or brick. It was either that or close off the front yard to him, which would deprive him of his favorite cave under the spruce tree. But paving stones are expensive! Then last week I finally got my chance. A house had sold one block over, and the new owners were tearing out the rock garden in the front yard. Free rocks!
So I got out my pry bar and my trusty Geo Metro and went to work. About 5 rocks would fit in the back seat of my car, and I got around 85 rocks, so it took my 17 trips around the block. But I've got the materials for Darby's rock garden for the cost of a gallon of gas. Pretty sweet, eh?
Of course, after I finished the car was so filthy I had to clean it out top to bottom, so yesterday was pretty exhausting. And I did it all for my dog!
