I grew this cycad from seed a few years ago. Last year when I saw the cream colors on the leaf spines I assumed that it had gotten a bit of sunburn. This year, it looks much less environmentally induced.
Unexpected variegations
Occasionally the variegated syngonium produces all white or all green shoots. The all green ones grow very fast and take over the plant if not pruned out. The all white ones get smaller and smaller until they die off. This shoot is a bit different in that it has just a touch of green and has managed to push out a number of large leaves, defying the tendency of the white ones to die off. It probably will be no more stable than the parent line, but it is fun to watch.
This black magic is a selfling which has been turning out leaves with splotches of green (in this picture it is at the top of the frame, on the side of the leaf. There is also a bit of lingering green on the center vein. This plant has been growing in full afternoon sun, with the pot submerged in water. It is much too early to say whether this will continue as the plant matures further, and most likely these splotches will fade as each leaf ages, but again, it is fun to watch.
that sago palm is too kewl ! nice white variegation. :-)
