Leaves Curling and Turning Black on Edges

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I have no clue whats causing this.
The leaves are curling, staying about 1/2 size and turning black on the edges.
This is the first year she has been in the ground and not a pot.
I am ready to dig her up rinse her roots and repot her, or cut her up LOL!!
If you know what this is id appreciate help.
Thanks!!

It could be fertilizer burn of some sort, Michael. Did you mix any manure into the soil? It could be a reaction to some chemical either in the form of a fertilizer, supplement, or insecticide. It's probably not fatal.

I have done 1 foliar spray and 2 root feedings, but on all my plants.
This hasnt recieved anything that the others havent.
I planted it where my wisteria used to be and to my shagrin still has some life lol!!
I saw a few small shoots lst week and pulled them up.
I wonder if wisteria can affect a plant growing in its vacinity like this.

Michael, I might get a bit of backlash for this, but I have noticed this sort of thing on certain plumies of mine when I use SNG and Bill's P. Fertilizer. JL Hawaiian Sunset gets it worse than any of them. Some of the leaves on this plant and on other varieties curl and malform---some get brown spots and splotches in addition to the malformation. The tissue in these spots becomes necrotic and leads to tiny holes. I love SNG products, but this started last year in the summer, and I noticed it didn't re-appear this year until I started treating them with this foliar stuff again. Last year I was so worried about it I had my State Agricultural Inspector take leaf samples to see if it was disease. No disease or bugs were found in the lab. I am going to try just SNG without the Bill's on a select few to see if maybe the summer temps are causing phyto-toxicity. I am careful to spray very late in the day now, or, in the morning. I suspect the Coco-Wet keeps it all on the leaves and the high heat and humidity are contributing to this problem. I am already having problems with sunburn (aren't most of these plant supposed the THRIVE in lots of heat and sun?? LOL)

I have several plants that are otherwise very healthy, but will have several leaves each that are quite ugly.

Thanks Brad,
I was wondering just that LOL!
I havent seen it on any other plant yet and this is the first year she is in the ground.
The only common factor is the foliar and root feedings.
Since I havent seen it on the others I was trying to isolate possible causes to only those things attributed to her.
That would be putting her into the soil.
Im going to forego my next SNG treatment on her and hopefully itll clear up.
I am currently watching the new leaves.
If they come out with damage then ill know its not the sprays.
Ill also then be lifting her assuming its something in the soil
I dont want her to be in shock long.
Im counting on tip growth this season as I want to cut her in the fall.
Ill keep yall posted.
Thanks for taking the less popular road and speaking the unthinkable Brad. ;^)

So wha tis SNG?

On brugs leaves like that that curl under like that, esp the newer growth, is due to broad mites which you can't see by your naked eye. They are so deforming and such a pain to get rid of. I use Neem.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

SNG is Spray and Grow
I dont see any mites or other pests.
I know you said you cant see them, but honestly ive never had trouble seeing mites of any kind. They are very small but I find them.
I dont see any indication of pests here.
I doint think theyd cause the leaf to turn black either.
Thanks! ;^)

malestrom, whats that bamboo in the background? Is it in the ground and is it a runner or a clumping? If running, is it aggressive, or not so in your zone because of the cold holding it back from taking over? Curious because I have started experimenting with cold hardy tropicals in the ground on my property...should I add this??? lol Talk about an addiction!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

It is bamboo
It is a runner
It is taking over
I cut it all the time when I see new shoots
It never quits
If I had a choice id start over and use clumping
The runners go far and deep, very deep.
It cannot be removed without a backhoe anda lot of time.
I manage to keep it under control somewhat.
I enjoy it but eventually (5 years) ill have to get mean on it

Thanks! I don't have the balls to put a runner in, they scare me to death....having lived in Hawaii I have seen what running bamboo can do-miles of bamboo in the valleys. But I love the golden striped bamboo. I have found one kind that is clumping that would probably make it here-bambusa Alfonse Kerr-it's golden with green stripes, now I just have to order it.
