Help and identifying something please

Kingston, MA

Hi I am new and live in the Northeast. We have recently built a new home on a lot that has never been groomed ACK! Anyways I have lots and lots to do, but need help in identifying if some things I should leave alone or get rid of. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is growing in a large shaded Pine grow along with lily of the valley and some lady slippers, any ideas what it is? So afraid because of the leaves in threes thing that it might not be such a good thing to have around. Seems to be spreading lightly along the center most portion of the shaded area. Thanks so much!

Hi,

Afraid I can't tell you what it is, but I CAN tell you it's definitely not poison ivy, so at least you don't have to worry about that.

My uneducated guess would be 'Trillium'. 3 leaves, shade, just past blooming (I see a seed pod).
If you don't get a definitive answer here, try posting on the "Indigenous Plant" forum.

I agree that it isn't poison ivy and it also isn't trillium.

I think it's Spotted Wintergreen (Striped Wintergreen, Spotted Pipsissewa)
Chimaphila maculata.

I've never seen wintergreen's flower before. Very pretty. It reminds me of anemone. Good ID Babs!
I guess the question is should dj keep it or toss it? I like it but would it disrupt a bed?

Wow you are the greatest Babs, I have been searching high and low for this. I sincerely appreciate it. I was wondering if it was yet to flower and now I know. It's preference for dry wooded areas must be why it is under the thickest canopy and center area of the pine grow. It does not seem invasive even tolerates dappled sunlight. I think I will keep it and preserve the area. Already have parts of it for the lady slippers! Again thanks everyone! For Dave if it is possible to share I will be more than happy to send you a slip of it via mail. Let's just make sure it will survive first.
