Hybrid Tea Rose 'Alpine Sunset'
Rosa
Taken 21st June. Fully open, the colours have mellowed with shades of the sunset. Backs of the petals are all one colour.
Hybrid Tea Rose 'Alpine Sunset'
Just a gorgeous rose, Janet!!
And how nice that they all lined up for their photo shoot too, very pretty!
what a beautiful set of pictures, wallaby! You increase my appetite for this wonderful rose yet again. (I have it on order) I particularly appreciate the sequence of development of the flower colour. It makes it easier to anticipate how the colour will fit in with the larger garden scheme.

Looks like we are all in agreement. LOL
Oh it look like it's popular! Not pink Kell, but it does have pink overtones. The scent is strong but not sickly, the flowers can get to 8" across.
Sue they all lined up beautifully didn't they, perhaps it was because it's been in a pot for way too long waiting for this spot in the garden. I haven't pruned it and it got tall, the weight of the flowers just pulled it down. But they are in line.
hortensia it was a good idea to do a sequence, I just couldn't resist taking pics of the rich colouring, almost dayglo. Who could resist? It does throw quite tall stems, that may be of help to you.
There is a good reason to buy roses that have been given awards, don't you all think?
Oh those are just beautiful and from what I can see of the foliage not one bit of black spot!- it is just awful in this area, we have to be so careful about which roses we plant and even then it is still a bit of a problem- but your plants and roses look superb!
Hi april, it's been in a large pot for around 3 years and really quite neglected. I have only recently put it in the ground. I think it may have originally had a touch of blackspot but my organic growing has probably sorted that out.
It has received awards, they are mentioned on the PF page. Generally to receive awards they have to be good in many respects, including disease resistance.
I have had some blackspot on another rose in the past, Glamis Castle which is susceptible. It also went to Evelyn a little which is behind them. After not using any sprays for a few years (I never did but I have only been here 8+years), the ladybird population increases and soon clean up any greenfly which can carry disease. I have also mulched with home made compost and fed with an organic food. They have come back this year after cutting right back, blackspot free at the moment! It can take a little while, but I am convinced that organic methods help strengthen the plant, increase your predators and you end up with healthy plants.
You may not be successful doing this yourself unless the whole neighbourhood does it, but who knows! Certainly worth a try. I have read that artificial fertilisers can make a plant susceptible to disease also, I guess it's a bit like us eating junk food, the plant tissues grow too soft and with too many nitrates.
I believe that you are right about the organic methods- and your roses are certainly the proof that any of us might have needed. Thank you so much for the information- I will look for this rose the color is spectacular!
april, hortensia has it on order, perhaps you could find out where from?
