Isn't this beautiful?

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I found this photo online and was wondering where I might get something like this. It is absolutely beautiful and I would love to have one. This is not my photo and if I knew who posted it I would give them full credit. I say this because I would never want to steal anyone else's photo and claim it as my own. So, where can I get something like this?

Hi Jesse,

It looks something like a Martha Washington geranium to me but not sure. It sure is pretty though.

Technically, it's a pelargonium. What most people call geraniums are technically pelargoniums. I'm not trying to be snotty . . . just informative. :)

What is a true geranium is what people now call a "hardy geranium". This site has more information about it:

http://www.hardygeraniums.com/

The following paragraph is from the above mentioned site:

"Geraniums are just one of the members of the family Geraniaceae. Pelargonium are also a member of the same family so that confusion has arisen by both of them being referred to as Geraniums! This occurred because Linnaeus, the famous botanist and plant hunter in his Species Plantarum (1753), did not accept that Pelargoniums were distinct from Geraniums and in fact included all plants we now call Erodiums as well. It was not until 1789 that L'Heritiers's work published in William Aiton's Hortus Kewensis carried the botanical world in accepting that they were seperate genera. Nothing subsequently has changed the publics' attitude so that the more popular Pelargoniums remain known as Geraniums!

Geraniums are distributed worldwide and, depending on the species, will grow in almost any condition."

So that's the explanation as to how the confusion arose over geraniums and pelargoniums. I would be willing to bet that most garden centers and/or nurseries refer to pelargoniums as geraniums since that is what most people think they are.

ETA: That is a beautiful pelargonium. If you can't find what you would like locally, there are mail order business that might be able to help you. I have not ordered any from them, but I've seen ads for them.

One of the ads is for Hobbs Farm in Maine:

http://hobbsfarm.com/

I've also seen some on eBay. You can do a Google search on both pelargoniums and geraniums and see what you come up with. Good luck. :)

Nice vivid colors! Love it! Don't know it's name though.

From the shape of the petals, leaves, that looks to me like an ivy-leaf pelargonium, they are coming out with some great stripey ones of those the last few years!

Gorgeous.

The only name that was written above it was pelargonium. I think it is so beautiu.
