Honey for Healing??

Has anyone used honey for healing wounds?? My sister in law, who is a nurse, says that this is starting to be used for wounds that are difficult to heal. After doing some research, and reading an article in the local paper, I came up with Manuka honey, which is from New Zealand. Just interested to see if anyone has tried this, and their results. My daughter had some surgery in December last year, ended up with an infection in her pelvis, and they had to open up her incision to let it drain. It has been left to heal on it's own, and is still not totally healed. Only about 3/4 of an inch remains. The health nurse has tried many things, and the wound certainly is healing, although VERY slowly!!
