Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi, I just had to share with you my very cute camphorfolia blooms.
They are so teeny-tiny. Really quite lovely.

WOW...we have a photomeister club here!!! You all are fantastic!!!

Oh, so cute! And awesome pictures!!

I have a little camphorifolia, but I've had some problems with it. It doesn't grow very well right now but I hope it some day will be as beautiful as yours!

Congratulations!!

Thanks Carol & Lotta!
Mine blasted most of its buds, these are the only ones left from three different peduncles - it is very tempermental. I have had it bud up once before and blast every bloom. This is the first time it has actually produced anything for me (and notice there are only five buds/blooms). So, I am ever grateful for the blooms I got.

Great shots, Ann! It sure looks different from my camphorifolia. Your leaves are much bigger and prettier than mine, but then mine is blooming like a fool right now!

Thanks Christina. I sure do love the leaves. It's a good thing since it's stingy with the blooms. Yes, I also thought my blooms look different than yours, but I do live in the rainy & cloudy American Pacific Northwest, so it makes sense that the bloom colors won't be as striking (as evidenced by the nearly while naumanii blooms). Too bad because I was hoping the blooms would be a little more like yours - oh, well, that's what grow-lights will be used for over winter.

By the way, the blooms smell like rotting flesh in the summertime.

Good thing the "scent" is so minimal one has to put their nose very close to get a whiff.

Ann - WOW ~~ that's beautiful! I can't believe all the blooms you are getting this year!! I know you are thrilled and I am happy for you. I am also happy to get to see what some of these hoyas look like in bloom.
Thanks for sharing!

Rotting flesh in summertime????

Long Beach, CA

Great photos Ann. Your plant is just beautiful. I was never able to keep that one for long. Maybe my cuttings were just weak. I should have started with a mature plant like yours. Good thing it IS rather stingy with the blooms if they smell like THAT, Christina...how do you stand the smell if yours is blooming big time?

Very pretty plant Ann, I love the pink. The rotting flesh scent in summer time??? Ewww, not a strong selling point for this hoya... Great pictures

What a pretty color! thanks for sharing with us!

Awesome blooms Ann. Marcy, as soon as I get out to California, I would be happy to get you some cuttings of my camphorfolia. You can try to get that rotting flesh smell yet!

Hi Ann, I'm intrigued with your photo of H. camphorifolia. There is one circulating that came from Bicknell that he says is camphorifolia, but it's not. Dale Kloppenburg has been trying to find someone with flowers from that plant to look at under the microscope. Would it be too much to ask that you send me some preserved flowers to study. I wouldn't ask you to send your new blooms but maybe when they start closing you could put a few flowers in a few drops of Canola oil in a plastic bag and send to me in a padded mailer (or something that won't get smashed in the sorting room at the post office) I will gladly re-imburse you for postage. I wouldn't normally ask anyone to part with long awaited flowers but yours looks so very different than the one I've had for the past 20 years that I'm wondering if it is the Bicknell plant. Please let me know if you will be willing to do this. My e-mail is hoyaannie@aol.com
Thanks Ann

Really nice, Ann.....

Here's an updated shot now that the blooms have been open a day.

And, they no longer smell like rotting flesh - It still isn't a lovely scent, however!

Wow, is that ever a cool looking flower Ann. It doesn't look real....it looks like it's made out of shiny plastic. Your camera sure takes good close-up pictures.
