I **LOVE** plant shopping. Hate clothes shopping (for that my husband is thankful!) but absolutely go nuts for new plants.
Was on lunch break in Sumner, had Mongolian Grill (great food, reasonable price) and then hit the local McClendon's. They had some nice geraniums on sale, including the Marth Washington varieties. I was really set on buying geraniums, as the email blast from Springhillnursery.com had a sale on them and it reminded me I needed something for my patio.
Picked up a "Camilla 98" begonia instead. I have a shady porch area and decided that it would do nicely. It was so full of blooms and just called out "buy me!" Light pink fading to cream color on the blooms, darkish green on the leaves. And a "propogation prohibited" tag on it.
YUM! Anyways, just had to share :-)
Newest Purchase!
MARI,
Great choices. BTW, ingore that tag, its like the tag on your mattress, lol, hehehe.

I love McLendons. And Windmill Gardens.
:-}
You mean the tag on your mattress and pillow that says DO NOT REMOVE and is usually the first thing we do? =P I've picked out some strong looking lower leaves already ... you know, just in case something unforeseen should happen to the main plant... When I potted it last night, it didn't look to have a very strong root system, so I put a few drops of root stim around the bottom of it, gave it a nice soft bed of new soil, and fertilizer for a snack.
Haven't been to Windmill Gardens. Where is it? I work in Bonney Lake, so I try and sneak away for an hour or so when things aren't too busy in the office. I like McClendon's because the people there are knowledgeable and helpful. They KNOW what they're talking about. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and cornered a bearded guy in the garden shop with some questions on bushes. He said that he had years of prior work at a plant nursery.
Of all the plants I have I think I love begonias the most. There are so many amazing varieties for both indoors and outdoors. They hate to get too wet so a protected area is best, also not too much sun. I imagine you know all of that but just thought I'd share what little I know. :)Donna
About the only thing I know about begonias is how to kill them quickly! I learned alot just by doing yahoo and google searches last night. I don't know all there is to know, but I know just enough to make it suffer a while before it dies.
I'm with you on hating clothes shopping.
It's so nice to be here at Dave's Garden where fellow gardeners understand our plant shopping addictions.
My friends outside of Dave's just don't understand this passion for plants.
*-D
My husband indulges every yard splurge I have including 30 yards of soil delivered in a huge steaming pile, because I LOATHE Nordstrom's and the like, wouldn't dream of getting close to the madness of the half Yearly Sale, etc etc. What a waste of time! Clothes shopping, Fun? Not in my book! I make about 4 outfits cover my work needs for years on end LOL. The other day we were comparing shoes at work ( I, not a really intrigued participant) and another gal just flat out said " You need new shoes!" So I guess my 8 yr old worn flat soled black slip ons have got to go to the dump soon. PIty, they are so comfortable!
And if another clothing salesperson ever says " Isn't this scarf FUN?" to me. I'd like to whip out my fork-tongued poker garden tool and plant it in between their brain ventricles to aid them in getting a clue. That would be Fun.
There: guess you won't catch Poochella on the cover of Vanity Fair anyday soon LOL!
ROFL pooch!
Wow, Pooch, I've never known you to be so violent......except when you are talking about slugs! LOL
Note to self: Check Pooch's pockets before a shopping adventure ... LOL!
So Pooch, want to go to Macy's this weekend? I've heard they have scarves on sale!
MARI, lolrof
