Help with gaura lindheimeri (siskiyou pink)

Longview, TX(Zone 8a)

I need some advice for my gaura. It did really well in April and May but now it's not blooming at all. It's still putting out wispy branches but is not flowering. The foliage is very healthy. This is happening with both of mine and they're in 2 different locations. I cut them back to the foliage but nothing. I read that they need alkaline soil. Should I try some lime or bloodmeal?

i'm not familiar w/ this plant, but maybe it blooms in flushes? maybe taking a rest before it starts blooming again. Some varieties of my lantantas do that. go crazy blooming, stop, then start all over.

I have had gaura and they tend to like it a little dry- not bone dry- it maybe that things have been a bit wet-don't know if you had any of this rain, but if so give them a chance to respond. Lots of plants seem to shine after rainfall- even those who don't like to be overwatered. These plants are pretty easy to deal w/ and by the end of the summer you will be cutting it back because it will be so big!

It's HUGE, just not blooming for some reason. We're watering every day so maybe it is getting a little too wet. Not sure what to do about that because the rest of the flowers need a drink!

Oh yeah don't water too much- they are one of the plants recommended for xeroscaping (sp).

Darn it! The bed they are in is so huge, the only way to water it is with the sprinkler so it's going to get wet. Maybe I should dig them up and container them instead????

I have Gaura plants too and love them. Mine are in my rock garden and they do seem to do better with less watering. Mine also took a rest and then began blooming like crazy again. So maybe yours are just taking a rest.

I had mine in a bed that got lost of water and they still did ok- my daughter's were in a bed that was watered less and they were more tada than mine, still mine were fine. I agree w/ Dancey, they are probably taking a rest- don't move them unless you have to- way toomuch work and it's to hot!
