The longest day of the year....

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

...brought to you by the Summer Solstice. Today is it! Couldn't sleep, finally gave up and got out of bed @ 3:30 this morning, I'm sure it's because I was excited about today. If the rain holds back, we'll be able to enjoy being out in the garden with over 14 hrs of daylight! (It would help if I didn't have to go to work.) Even the plants are doing the happy dance!

Have a great Summer Solstice everyone!

Those bears are sooooo cute, did you do them?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I hate to see the days get shorter, I love the long evenings in the garden, but accept the inevitable we must.

Happy Solstice back to ya! Try to get some shut eye.

A perfect day--the bears are too cute

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Are those your bears? They are wonderful!!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, those bears would be so fun to have, but alas they are not mine. When I was down in Houston last week (to hear the grandgirl's heartbeat at the dr's office), I drove around the neighborhood after supper with Adam and Katie. They are renting a duplex in the Heights, lots of really interesting yards there. I'm sure there were a couple of cyclists about to call the police on me for driving slowly up and down the streets, taking occasional pictures... probably thought I was scoping out some places to rob, lol. Check out this garden art - a lawnbot maybe?
:-)

Josephine, I feel the same way. I really celebrate when we pass the Winter solstice, because it means the days are getting longer again! At least we have long days for a good while after the Summer solstice.

Well that sculpture is interesting, but not really my style. The bears, yeah!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, the sculpture is a little... intimidating... in the garden. But fun to see in someone else's yard!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I love that funky stuff. Maybe not a robot in my own yard but I like it!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

I like good sculpture, but I think the robot just isn't my style- a cat or dog would be good- I have seen a lot of them but not so many that they make me sick.
I'd like to try my hand at creating my own sculpture, just need to learn how to weld and cut iron and all that.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

what do you think you would sculpt?

Oh my, it's the end of the longest day and I didn't know it! Actually, it's over and this was one of the rare evenings I didn't stay outside.

I don't think you should have told me this. I'm driven by time and always trying to avoid wasting it so now I'll dread the shortening days so much that I will stay outside too long. My brain will keep saying "but you have to keep working because soon you won't have enough time!"

I spent the last of yesterday's evening watering 4 flower beds that I am caring for at the church, after choir practice.
A very neat thing happened when I was watering, the Lord left me a tip!, Actually I found a $20 dollar bill lying in the shrubs, instead of the usual pieces of paper and plastic.
I thought that was a neat coincidence.

Josephine, what a nice reward for taking care of those flower beds!

Randy, those dancing bears at the top of this thread are not too far from you. Have you ever checked out the white victorian house on the corner of... I think it's Harvard and 18th St? I'll post some pictures of it when I get home.
