Could someone ID this plant? It only blooms in June/July in the rockiest ground . See it every year going up 71 near Spicewood. Finally asked DH to stop truck so I could "look" at it.....with a shovel. Couldn't get any dirt on the roots (ground was so hard), so wrapped it in wet paper towel for the 30 minutes left to get home. Know it must need little water based on where it grows each year. Been in water, however, on my kitchen window for over a week now. Just saw new growth, but no roots at bottom of vase. I've looked for it in numerous sites, but no luck. Would like to plant in front yard, since obviously the deer don't care for it.
Stymied....
It is called Mountain Pink and it is a Texas native wildflower. What a lucky find!

Thanks again! I appreciate it. I'm going to try it in the rock wall now and hope it doesn't get too much water there. Thanks, Josephine!
