Anyone have this one?
Midget Gundrop
Is this the one Jill sent me ? I keep getting mixed up .
Yes it is! And I have lots of little plantlets, but no larger ones... This is one of the two varieties that have been suckering like crazy on me (the other is 'Winnie the Pooh'). I remove the suckers and repot the remaining little bit of plant, and the suckers root, grow just a little, and then they start suckering. I've about given up on getting either of them to grow without suckering, so I may just let them be multi-crowned plants... perhaps that way I will actually get them to bloom!
Nanna, I'll be happy to put your name on a couple of the best looking little plantlets!
Thanks, Jill. The Winnie the Pooh you gave me started to send up a flower stock but started to sucker and the flower stock wilted. I am having the same problem. Put my name on two and I give it a try.
Ok good that's what Jill sent me. I made it in to 4 or so tiny babies and hope they all do well ! I'm trying to not let them dry out and going to take any part of a sucker off ASP. I took lot's of Winnie the Poohs apart too. If it does not work I will also just let them sucker.
Question: If you let them continually sucker, will they ever bloom or give all the energy to suckering?
I think they will bloom. Year ago people use to let their plants sucker all the time. And Av books I have read say if you like more than one crown in a pot don't let anyone tell you that you can not grow them like this. Grow them they way you enjoy.
Only reason you could not is if you are showing the plant.
Makes sense.
My newest suckers are down in a ventillated salad tray... I'm going to see if providing more consistant moisture will keep them from suckering until they are larger at least. But I'm less hopeful since I asked the gal at VG about these two varieties, and she said they sucker constantly for her also. I've never seen "suckers constantly" in an AVSA description, but maybe it should be there for certain varieties, LOL!
