Begonia Rex

I am looking for Begonia Rex Escargo. Does anyone have one?

I don't think so. Lali gave me a bunch of small B cuttings end of Feb/March. They rooted so fast for me and grew into nice plants most growing outside !
BUT A month of so ago I took cuttings and rooted them into nice small babies . Today a box was shipped to Lorretta about fives named Begonia plants and some AV's. Begonias are so easy to root and grow !

You might like this one I have a couple growing in my kitchen window. They love growing there. I will see if I can find a picture in plant files. The ones in out garden are getting so big and flowering !

I'll try to post a picture of Beau Rouge. It has just sent up a bloom stock.

This is Beau Rouge. I can't believe I have has this begonia for about six weeks and it's still alive.

I bought it beause of the beautiful leaves. I love them. So my surprise, this is what I found this morning peek at me from under the leaves. Ta da!!!

The torn leaf was alread there. I figured I buy her anyway. As soon as the other leaves grow a little, I'll cut that one off and try to grow babies.

Fabulous color on those leaves! I think 'Escargot' may be the only begonia that Lali didn't send me a cutting of in that amazing box of goodies, LOL. I'm on the lookout for one too. Maybe I'll find a pot at Dutch Plant Farm... it'll be a good excuse to stop in after the farmer's market next weekend!

Nanna, I can't remember if you got a start from my begonia in the big hanging pot, the one I think Lali said looked like 'Chivalry'. If not, I'll see if I can wriggle a little division out of the pot for you!

Here's a photo of it blooming in Feb... wish I'd gotten a photo a little later, as it had huge arching stalks of blooms through early April!

Violet Barn has it on their specials page for $7 for a 2.5 inch pot. I've managed to learn to keep cane begonias alive, but I'm still working on the others. I won't be buying it til I have at least some hope that it'll live. What a beauty, though!

That's beautiful. I did not and I would love one. Lali sent me "Concord" and it has rooted and is sending up new shoot and growing on the stem and at the top.

I think I have found an escargo. Crossing my fingers. They are on Lyndon Lyon site, but the one that will be coming would be only for postage.

The problem with a comercial dealer is you spend as much for shipping as you do for the plant so you end up paying double or buying a lot of things that you might not have.

I agree completely! I don't have a problem paying several dollars for a healthy plant, even if it's small, but I refuse to pay more for shipping than I do for the plant. I'm cheap that way. LOL

Nanna, I've got a new wish list going for you in my trade tracker, and I just added the begonia. If I find 'Escargot' at DPF, I'll see if it's cheap enough to buy several or big enough to propagate for fall trades... RG, I know we're already planning another swap for your lovely daffs, so LMK whenever I post about something you'd like to have me add to your wish list too!

Thanks critter! Your begonia is lovely and I'd love to have it, but at this point I'd just kill it. I don't know what it is with me and those begonias! I try so hard to take care of them and they just go kaput! While we were on vacation, I did find a few angelwing begonias (the only type I can keep alive so far, but I received a few of some other type in a trade that I'm really, really trying to take good care of) which insisted on coming home with me. A couple of them are unnamed and then there's 'Sinbad' and 'Dancing Lady' both of which I think are lovely. I'll post pictures of them if I can find them.
nanna, I hope you don't mind if I step in on your thread with pictures. As consolation I'm willing to share cuttings! LOL
Here's 'Sinbad' It had lovely pink blooms all over, but the ride home in the trunk all the way from Florida (I know, I know, but I couldn't put our kids in the trunk! LOL) caused it to lose them all. I brought home about 15 plants in the trunk. They pouted a bit, but none died. Next year we're taking the truck! LOL

I am really beginning to love begonias. Sinbad and Dancing Lady are beautiful. I can imagine the folage with pink blooms. Dancing lady is also lovely.

This isn't my thread. It's for begonia lovers. I would love to trade in the fall.

Rob has an especia called Bethlehem star or Star of Bethlehem. It is also very beautiful. That is on my wish list.

I knew the especia wasn't the begonia you were looking for. I was just reminded by the name.

Oh .. Yes I have grown the especia might again someday who knows !
But I just ordered the Begonia one ! Min. order and shipping 3 plts. shipping $10.00 a waste to buy one. So I asked her to put in any other Begonias with pink/red colorerful foliage :))
I told her no rush but she said she may ship today !

Threw the years i've always had one . We have a few that we have had 1-3 years !
But not a collector. Just a few special ones !
This one is one of my favorites
It puts on a good show all it's flowers ! Had it 4 years.

This one I love ! I have had it maybe 3 years. All tiny 2 inch pots when i got them

This is one of my favorite's Hubby gave it to be about the 1/4 of this size for my B-day May 2005. THis was taken Dec 2005. Looking for newer picture could not find /

We have some very big ones in the ground some from cuttings Lali send end Feb/March. The one in the hanging pot I grew a real large one of it is in our garden doing great too. I still have a few plants inside grown by cuttings doing good. And I sent Lorretta 5-6 begonia plants I grew from cuttings the other day with her Av's !
I will never collect them but fun to have a few and if I see one real different I fall in love like Bethelhem Star
then I just may have to go for a search of it !
They are so easy to grow and progate much so than Av's they barley need my care.

I placed and order Wednesday this week and just got my box with my Begonia Bethlehem Star !
I also got Begonia Edge of Sunset and B. Strawberry Cream !
I'm so excited . Their good size plants in 2.50 inch pots. They will live on my kitchen windowsill. Begonias
seem to really love it there !
