Hi everyone. I just found Dave's Garden and began posting in the Rose Forum. Thought I'd share my clematis pictures with you.
First one is Henryi. This is the second year I've had it. Unfortunately, I pruned the wrong stem this Spring and basically cut it off at the base, so it's not as large as it should be by now. : ( In spite of that, it is growing strong and has this one beautiful bloom on it.
New to Board, Some Clematis Pics
And this one is 'Candida.' This is also the second year I've had it, but I got this one from a local nursery and it was a bit larger to begin with. These flowers are HUGE and bright. All my neighbors have been asking me what on earth it is and where to get it.
I just recently bought "Arctic Queen" but haven't planted it yet, and it's still only about 3 inches tall. Guess we'll have to wait until next year to see how she does.
welcome to DG! i hope you enjoy it as much as i have. your clematis is beautiful. i'm so ready to try some; my patience is wearing thin waiting on that pergola to get built. LOL
Welcome Karen!
"Henryii" is a tried and true Clematis. It's okay that you cut it this year, it will come back even stronger next year with more stems & flowers!
"Candida" is lovely. I'm not familiar with that one.
Please add your pictures to Plant Files, if you haven't already done so.
Where in zone 7a are you?
I added my pictures to PlantFiles. : )
I'm on the north shore of Long Island, NY
Hi Karen,
Welcome. I've never seen Candida before. I love the white with yellow lines. Have you ever tried saving clematis seed, or taking cuttings? I have John Paul II, Dr. Rubbel and Jackmanii and just put in a small Sweet Autumn. I might have to build a formal arched walkway in the backyard just to have a place for all the Clematis I would like to have!!
Take care,
Deb
How does one collect seed from a Clematis?? I am new to Cl;ematis growing.
Karen, welcome to Dave's. I grew up on Long Island and went to Hofstra, moved to midwest when I married. I still have some family there.
Deann
Welcome Karen and Deann. I picked up a Candida at HD this spring. Lovely flowers. Can't wait until next year when I expect to see some blooms. I don't recommend growing Clematis from seed. They don't come true unless you have a species plant. Also, from seed I think it takes about 5 years to bloom. They are definitely worth the money to buy already rooted and then it takes about 3 years for the real show to begin. However, it's not unusual to see a few blooms on an immature plant; a teaser for what is to come.
