TuTu Dog stops to smell the flowers!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

My lil Chihuahua/Rat Terrier Mix LOVES my brugs! V Apricot just opened up this evening. My dog Tweety (pie, not bird) always goes around and smells my potted flowers.. she saw those brug blooms and ran to smell them.. I thought it was the cutest thing I've ever seen... she stuck her nose in there and just stayed there like she was really loving it.

How cute!! And congratulations on the blooms!
My little Rat likes to smell things too, such curious little critters they are!
I cant get a picture with his nose in a flower like you have done.. lol I make one move and Squirt just has to know what I am doing.

What cute pictures. Shelly, your dog is a handsome lad!

I wonder if rat terriers smell for rats? Am I close? LOL

Joyce, your Tweety is a doll too. How funny he smells all the flowers. I am glad he doesn't eat them too.

Cute dogs you guys. Love the brug too.

Shelly, everytime I hear you talk about Squirt, I smile. That's a dog name I'll never forget.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

RT's were named by Roosevelt when the White House was infested with rats, and his wife's Feist killed all of them. He then named them Rat Terrier.
Squirt does not have rats here to chase, but he is a great squirrel hunter, and keeps the cats and rabbits at bay. He was great with all my animals tho, when I told him to be nice, he would just sit and shake starring at them, and finally relaxed when he realized they werent a threat.

Was your Squirt a Lhaso Shirley? Do you have any pictures of her?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Someplace back in my files I have pictures of her. She was a ShihTzu. Best thing about her was that she didn't shed.

What sweet pictures!!! I have a rat terrier too- his name's Pete. He LOVES to hunt for mice- thank goodness we don't have any rats LOL.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

aww lol she is so cute! What a perfect part in her hair! LOL.
Im sure that wasnt the best thing about her tho was it??

ZZsBabiez - I'm a big time doggie person and love all three picutres (ZZ, Shelly & Brugie), but I would also like to see pictures of your brug.. lol lol

Northern Michigan, MI(Zone 5a)

Here's our rat terrier, her name is Tina. As you can see she's holding watch at the window....heaven forbid something moves without her knowing it...lol. She's very smart, and loves to tunnel into the bed covers every night. Great personality.

my pooches are not at all interested in flower scents. sometimes I will put a flower right against either one's nose and they look at me like I've lost my mind!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Judy, my brugs are not blooming yet. Will this picture work for a while? LOL! I'm just watering and crossing my fingers. It has to rain one day or they will put water restrictions on us. Tonight's news said that our part of the state is now in drought conditions.

Looks great Shirley! I know it wont be long until you are posting pictures of flowers, and making us all ooh and ahhh.

Such beautiful girls everyone has! Julie, Tina looks like a spunky teenager, the look I have seen a million times, and will never get tired of it. He loves to sleep in the window sill, in the sunshine.
LOL Squirt also tunnels under the covers. For such a small dog, he sure takes up alot of room.

Great photos, ZZ :) Tutu looks great.

Julie, our ratdog has the same temprement lol Here she is inspecting seedlings in the wintergarden ... there might be a mouse between them ... you never know? That is rare, but last fall a rat had a nest in one of the Brugmansia pots ... as long as it lasted. Snui is even faster than a cat chasing mice. btw. is it possible to teach a ratdog to walk nice in line ... and how LOL

Brugie,

Your picture is wonderful, everything so neat and tidy.... I truly envy people who have this ability. Maybe I'll should go take a picture of one of my beds so you can see what "confusion" looks like. I start off neat, then I poke just one more here, then there so pretty soon they are overstuffed in the worst way. lol lol

Love the pictures of the Rat Terriers, everyone.

Judy, it isn't so tidy looking, really. The grass is dying and the weeds are growing in the lawn. It looks horrible, but it would probably do more damage to drive over it to mow than to just leave it alone. When I go to town, I see that every lawn on the way, looks just like mine. I hate having it look like this with company coming, but oh well, it could be worse.

Silex, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL- Pete LOVES to burrow under the covers too!! He'll wake up and get out of bed to do whatever it is he does LOL and when he comes back he'll actually stand up there next to my head and wait for one of us to lift the covers up so he can get under. If you don't lift them for him he roots around forever trying to get in and drives you nuts LOL. That's so neat that they're such a popular little dog on here.
Here he is:

Yes.. I will have to post pics of V apricot in bloom.. it is sad though cause they are all dragging the ground and can't open to their full potential. The plant came from Seedsprout and is the first one to bloom. I think I counted 14 blooms and it is just over 2' tall. The blooms are such a yummy color I just love it.
I have a huge Isabella that Pudgymudpies gave me and it gave me my first ever blooms a week or so ago, which I was absolutely thrilled over.. Now she has somewhere around 20 blooms opening and more on the way.. I am in heaven.. Will try to post pics later. Going out of town.. eek!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Awww I sure could look at Rat Terriers all day! I always wondered what Squirt's tail would look like, even tho I have seen the tail, I sure wouldnt give up his happy little nub.
LOL Becca, with Squirt too, we have to lift the sheets. He scratches my shoulder to wake me up and let me know he wants under. Pete sure is handsome. I get that look when I take too many pictures LOL.
When Squirt stares like Tina is, he does a little head bob about every 5-7 seconds LOL.
Snui looks like she loves watching for things. What a good girl.

Didn't mean to take over your thread ZZ I too would love to see pictures of the brug, but I have such a spot in my heart for RTs. Sorry.

ZZ, sorry for the posting of the dog :( I didn' t mean to distract from the subject. I look forward to see pictures, when you have 'Isabella' blooming again. Its one of my Brugmansia favorites, even though I only know the flowers from pictures.

I originally wanted to post this rat terrier, but couldn't remember the web site. This one belongs to my coworker and her husband. Rat Terriers do good when they have something to keep them busy.

Hey.. I love dogs too you guyz... I just never thought to post on a pet forum rather than here.. LOL I welcome doggie pics, as long as we don't break any rules..
so here..
brugs brugs brugs..
That's on subject isn't it?????? LOL

Really, it's so dang hot nothing can bloom to it's full potential and the spider mites have attacked in DRONES so everything is ugly right now.

One great thing is that BeeBee's sister.. (a brug seedling) has made a Y... and I can't find the dang magnifying glass to see if it's a leaf or a bud, I'm about to go insane. LOL

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I have learned a good rule, if you can see the newer leaves are uneven, you more than likely have a bud there. Here is a link.
One the 1st picture, the leaf on the upper right, is uneven.. this is how I know.. when I dont know LOL. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/430176/

I caught Squirt and actually had my camera.

Oh My Gosh.. what a darlling picture!! Too cute..

Regarding the bud.... It's in the crotch, there is a little cluster of leaves, you know how the new growth is almost tubular till it gets out and flattens out? Farther up there are 2 Y's, so it's not the Y I'm trying to identify.. (although I sure appreciate the link.. really good info)
I'm trying to figure out if it is a rolled up baby leaf or a micro bud.. LOL I just need to know TONIGHT RIGHT NOW.. I'm just tooo dang excited for my first seedling to bloom... they were "born" in late Jan. My camera is out of commission right now.. but I'll know in a few days anyway.. just dying to see!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL its exciting!! I hope its a bud for you. Seeing a bloom on a brug you have seen a picture of, is exciting in itself, but seeing a bloom on one no one else in the world has seen... well, its an experience all in itself.
I will sit here anxious with you!
