Interesting new detemination

David Liddle has written a piece on the MSN forum...about H. multiflora/H. javanica. Here is a link to the pictures: http://groups.msn.com/HoyasRUs/davidliddle.msnw (hoped that linked). I can't say for everyone else...but I compared mine and it is indeed H. javanica.

Isn't this exciting...more labels!!!

I also saw on that photo display that I have H. aff. tjadasmalanquensis and NOT H. macrophylla. Mmmmmm, more new labels!

Carol, would you please post a photo of a leaf from what is known H. aff. tjadasmalanquensis? Is this a new label for all plants ID'd as H. macrophylla, or just a particular plant in your collection?

Also, based on the bloom photos provided by David Liddle, I believe this plant that I have ID'd as an H. multiflora is now to be ID'd as an H. javanica. Is this correct?

Here is a photo:

It is what I have determined from the flowers on MY H. macrophylla comparing them to Davids photos. I am going to ask him more info. about it.... The corona in his picture matches or look like the one I have.

From David's pictures...I would say that yours is H. javanica as he has determined it. What the heck..kinda nice name!!

I agree, javanica sounds a little bit more "exotic" than multiflora!

Yes, I like javanica OK....but what in the world are we to do with a name like aff. tjadasmalanquensis? Im not even sure that will fit on my tags, and I am NEVER going to be able to SAY it.

LOL Marcy, that is what I was thinking, how in the heck do you pronounce that? I don't even think my tongue will move that way...

"jad ass malan kensis" is my guess. Say it 5 times, take two aspirin, a bottle of r ed wine and in the morning it will totally disappear!

Hi all

It seems that it is Hoya clandestina that is synonymous with H. tjadasmalangensis. Christine Burton poses this in a post on the msn forum (see attached hyperlink ) and David Liddle seems to agree.

David Liddle believes that the true H. macrophylla is rare in cultivation and that there are plants masquerading as it in collections that are really another related species -possibly H. clandestina. If you got your H. macrophylla from DL I suspect that you can still call it macrophylla.
