Hi all.
Please bear with me as I attempt to make this question understandable.
I have a hardy Lady Baltimore hibiscus that I saved seeds from last fall.
This past late winter, I wintersowed them. They finally appeared and then I transplanted them.
The plants are looking healthy, not getting bigger though. But... they look NOTHING like the mother hibiscus. The leaves are different even.
Does anyone have a photo of a seedling they can show me? Or is this normal for very young hibiscus to not resemble the parent?
The seeds were not mixed up with any others so I'm sure that they are from the original plant.
Any advice is appreciated. I don't want to waste my time nurturing them if they're just weeds that germinated instead of my hibiscus.
Thanks,
Lora B.
? re: hardy hibiscus seedlings
Many very young seedlings have leaves that don't resemble the parent plant, so I wouldn't worry about that too much yet--if you're sure that's the seeds you sowed then I'm sure your plants will grow up to be Hibiscus. However, I think Lady Baltimore is a hybrid cultivar, and most times hybrids won't come true from seed, so there's a chance your babies won't look like Lady Baltimore when they flower.
Thanks, ecrane. I didn't know that.
Now I'm curious to see what they will look like!
Lora
