An experiment in Brugs

A month or so ago I was told we were about to move and I just went into a panic. I had Huge Seed pods on my Brugs planted in the ground and just could bare to leave them. SO I came up with a plan to save or Salvage them. This is Tiara X RkX Balao, the RK x Balao are from seed I got from Monika last year.
This is a wonderful brug and I hope to use it in many crosses but sure wanted these seed this year.
This will have several photos so give me some time to post all.

I decided to try an air layering technique since I had some time before we were going to move.
I took a bag like you get oranges in and filled it maybe 1/2 full of soil, I then flattened it out and wraped the branch of the tree in it. I tyed it round with the coated wire and then wrapped an old T- Shirt around to keep the dirt from falling out.
I kept it watered and waited until I could see roots coming out of one end I could open to check on the progress....
This is the part of the limb I use I went in front of the second Y. This brug tree (Tiara) is about 8- 9 foot tall so I didn't even miss the branch that was cut off.

Here is the branch with the orange bag wrapped with soil.

Here we have it with the t-shirt wrapped around it and I had just watered it down.

This is it today, roots were showing out of one end and I cut it and planted it in a 3 gallon pot. I think it has a good enough root system since it didn’t even wilt when I cut it and planted. We are having good rain and it has been a bit cooler the past few days, so I have good reason to feel this is a success.

This is the seed pod on the tree before I removed it. I have one more but it is not ready to cut off yet. I don't see any roots so I will leave it a little longer.

And this is the other one I am waiting on and hopefully I can cut it next week.

Very good thinking on your part Dee. Are you relocating in Brazoria or moving further away?

Well I was looking out your way Frannie, and kinda decided on Sweeny.
We looked in Sweeny several times now and really like the small town atmospher. I think that may be the direction. I have several houses to consider and just can't make up my mind which one I want. I want the one with the most property but I really think it is overpriced......... I will wait and see if the owner will go down more....
Go figure, Guess I will stay here a while longer or at lease until summer is over, was just to hot to do anything and now it is pouring rain............LOL

So far the brug and the seed pod are doing well so I am really glad I did this.

Great idea Dee.. I would have just freaked and would not have known what to do.

Dee, Sweeney is a nice little town. I actually like Sweeney's atmosphere better than Brazoria and it has more stores and places yet is a very small town. In Cedar Lane, all we have is a post office and a weekend flea market. . . . lol. . . talk about being in the country. It seems in the past year property prices have really risen all around here and that is if you can find a house with acreage for sale or just find acreage. I hope the people will come down some on the house you would like.

Here you can see some of the roots coming through the t- shirt. I think I will cut this one today and get it potted up, if it stops raining this afternoon.
