Bosco and Babbs Have Met!

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

ok, ladies and gents, the big meet has happened. tomorrow is her all clear vet day (i hope) and taking her is traumatic for her not to mention that i want to bring her home after that and that will be more trauma. i decided a meeting today would be good for both of them. kind of a pre-meeting! i put a leash on her and we ran around the front yard for awhile so that she would be a little tired out beforehand.

i have been agonizing over where to do it because i wanted it to be on neutral ground. the problem is she isn't that good on a leash yet and i had visions of john dropping the leash (arthritic hands) or the two leashes getting tangled, etc. anyway, i decided that inside the vacant house would be best. i knew she couldn't escape no matter what. she isn't that comfortable in there to really think that is "her" house. it's only "her" porch. i put her in the house and then went over and got bosco. he had his gentle leader on of course. we walked up to the courtyard sliding door and since this was the first time she was in there alone, she was waiting there and looking out in a little of a panic. when she saw bosco, o man, the panic escalated. she literally had the pee scared out of her! then she ran into the kitchen. we walked in and she was barking full blast. bosco was so good, i can't even describe it. he didn't pull to get to her, he just stood next to me while she barked and barked and barked. i kept telling her it was ok and patting bosco. she took a couple of steps forward and i let bosco too. this went on for about a minute and then she came to me, snapping at him the whole time. not like aggression snaps, more like fear snaps. after about five of those, i told her no and then they started smelling around eachother. i let them do that awhile and then i took his leader off. we walked around the house together and by the time we got to the back bedroom, they were playing. i've got an old featherbed on the floor in there and they took turns jumping on and sliding it around. i just stood back and supervised.

then we went on out to the porch and when bosco stuck his head in her crate she ran over and got under him and snapped. that is her house! lol i walked out into the yard and they both came and messed around a little, but she kep going back on the porch. when we were all back on the porch, bosco tried to drink out of her bowl and she kept drinking and giving him "the look" but finally she just couldn't drink anymore and laid down. bosco drank a little and stuck his nose in and blew bubbles. she thought that was great fun!

after all of this fifteen whole minutes of excitement, bosco wanted to go home. he was worn out.

i am so glad i did this today. i will be taking him over again later after i grocery shop and i will take my camera this time. so no pictures yet. i didn't want to catch it on film if there were problems. lol
