July Bingo !
Don has volunteered to hold Bingo cards ! Thank you Don !
Who would like to Volunteer to Sponsor July Bingo !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

If you do not have 35 types named of leaves/ so on you may list 35 named African violets.People Pick 15 still the Winner gets the prizes you choose ! . Prizes must be stated before start of game.
Prizes need to have something to do with African Violets and Gesneriads .
Like books, Supplies, Gift Certificate...and so on !
We need at least ten plus people to play, one card holder and one Sponsor .
Don is going to hold the July cards.
A few people can go together to buy a Gift Cert.

Boy I sure enjoyed playing bingo (don'tchya just know that my last call was B-Mans Cosimo, darn it! ) - but even more I loved the
excitement everyone had in playing!

So Ali, I'm wondering if any one will be intimidated after this first Bingo game to be a sponsor. You're pretty hard to top! LOL. Those were great and generous prizes - above and beyond as always!! =)

What do you think about expanding the prize options to allow for more leeway? So for example, someone who doesn't have that many AV's can still sponsor by offering leaves of the AV's they do have for first prize and perhaps cuttings or plants of perennials, house plants, seeds etc for 2nd place etc.

You and I have been playing bingo on other sites so we may know the drill a bit better and it might be that some think they have to have all 35 AV's to sponsor. When in reality they don't have to have that many and can offer up something else as a prize so long as the bingo coordinator (you) agrees. What do you think?
Anyway, just a thought I was having and wanted to share. I have some ideas about alternative AV related prizes if you think that's a good route to go.

Sounds good! I figure something in the prize should be AV-related, but the prize could also include bonus house plant cuttings or whatever you think would be fun to include. I think part of the fun of sponsoring will be figuring out what to put in the prize box!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I would like to sponsor but I think I should wait a month or so. My husband is going through a bunch of medical testing right now and I sincerely hope by next month our lives will be back to something a little less frightening :)

I think if we can also do leaf pots, it will allow more folks to sponsor. After all we are all propagation nuts!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

It 's always been in the Bingo guides lines I wrote up the prixe could be A BOOK ~ Meaning ONE Prize one book.
It was clearly written up when I asked who would be interested in playing Bingo also in the second posting on this thread and all others,
BUT you still post 35 AV names people pick 15 first one who get their 15 wins the prize/prizes... BUT prize must be posted before hand.
I played where sometimes I offered the Winner all 35 plants/leaves just up to the sponcor !
READ my second posting please !
April is going to Sponcor April and Don is holding cards . Thanks both of you :))

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I wrote up last month is people would be intersted in playing Bingo with me ! I wrote up the guide lines for the game I was starting ! Just like anyone else does for contest/games they start.
I also wrote then sponcors DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE #% NAMED AVS. They can give a book os so for a prize. But still post 35 named AVs for the cards.
Jill wrote me privatly this morning asking me if people would be afraid to sponcor if I, her, Lorry and Lali sponcored first no one else would sponcor. And she was going to ask Lali and Lorry's what they felt.
i said from day one they could use other prizes if they don't have a combine leaves/or baby plants. Post the prizes before hand so people can decide if it is something they would enjoy playing for !
" Prizes must be stated before start of game.

It's our African Violets and Gesneriads forum we discuss these plants and how to grow them though we do open the Bingo to all DG paid memebers prizes should have something to do with African Violets and Gesneriads .
April is doing July, Don is holding cards ~ Thanks you both. If anyone would not like to speak up and take anyother months in advance . I am more than happy to take empty months as long as I can.
If someone wants to start a different game with different guide lines andone is welcome of course to have their games or contest anytime they want :))

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok- not sure exactly what the issue is but I have re-read Allison's original posting of the guidelines and it makes sense to me so I don't see any reason to make any changes- it's that old "if it ain't broken don't fix it" attitude.

I will post the prizes when I have decided what they will be, they will all be AV/Gesn. related.

I will not have as many prizes or winners as Allison- I don't have the same number of plants and leaves, I have not been collecting as long as she has and let's face it, I don't have her magic touch.

I think it's fair to say that Allison is way more generous than I am so this won't be identical, but it will follow the guidelines that were originally posted and hopefully it will be fun for all of us.
April

LOL April, I love your honesty, but I think you're plenty generous! You'll be a wonderful sponsor and we'll all have tons of fun!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Well it might have been wiser to save your kind words until after my month is finished because if everyone is unhappy after the game I will be bumping this up! LOL.
Thank you for your encouragement.

LOL I'm happy to take the risk! I feel certain I'll be right. Then I get to bump it back up! ;o)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

April, thanks for sponsoring the July Bingo! We all had so much fun playing this month... I know everybody is excited about another game. :-)

Allison, I took that discussion you mentioned to private Dmail because I wanted your input as to how we could best keep the momentum going and encourage folks to sponsor and to play. I wanted to see what your thoughts were before I posted anything that might be at cross-purposes with your intent as Bingo coordinator. I'm not going to repost our exchange publically except to say it was friendly and I didn't think anybody was disagreeing with anybody... I don't want people to get the wrong idea from what you posted above, and I'm rather hoping people will ignore the line about what I wrote because I think it's confusing out of context. I know you explained about different ways to do prizes, and nobody was saying you didn't... People were just making suggestions and agreeing with what you'd already said and making sure everyone was on the same page. It sounds like you ended up being upset and offended, and I'm not sure where that came from. I sure didn't mean to step on anybody's toes, and I'm sorry if I did. If there's a problem, please Dmail me.

Silver Spring, MD

I think we need to lighten up a little.

Hey! I am planning on being one of the caller guys. I just need to figure out which month. I'd like to include a doilie in my "prize pot" It's kinda an av thing. You can set violets on it.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Like Nanna sais please lighten up . I started up Bingo games to have fun. I wanted to keep our idea private Dmail . It was Lali that posted that don't I think pople will be threatened by my prizes ?
Answer no I don't. I hope they have fun and enjoy them. I am trying to get rid of all my plants . I can not care for them !

Silver Spring, MD

I don't think Lali meant anything other than your prizes were so great, most of us could not possibly give such wonderful plants. BUT we are not here to compete. We give the prizes we have. Like, I could give a doilie. (At least I think I could) Please, let's not take away from the fun we just had. Let's try to continue in the spirit of love and friendship.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

WTG April! I know you'll do a fine job as sponsor. Thanks so much to Allison and Anna for making June's Bingo so much fun. I look forward to working with you April. Just let me know if there is anything else I can do before the new one begins.

April, thanks for sponsoring the July Bingo!
I can't wait for more fun to begin ! I can't thank you enough for sharing with us all you touch my heart and I am so gratefull for you kind giving of your heart !
I organised a Bingo game asking who would enjoy playing ! It's a fun game . Please keep it a fun game
The first one 22 players ! Six winners ( as I need to get rid of my plants share or trash them I can not take care of them ). I am doing , wroking so hard to grow out these last babies to share rather than dumping them .
Most games are one Winner execpt if the Sponcor would like more than one other than that there in One winner. I feel hurt people would be intimidated of prizes I am giving from my heart. :((
The game is fun , organised well I feel . It went real well I felt.
Please let's keep it FUN !
This is the most wonderful African Violets and Gesneriads forum ! We are here to grow, share, show and tell , enjoy with each other our African Violets and Gesneriads :))

Oh Allison, don't be hurt! I think it was meant more along the lines of you have the most babies and different varieties available of all of us here. But as many as you've shared, the rest of us can't be far behind. ;o) We know you grow each plant with love because you so enjoy sharing them! I'll admit that I don't have the selection to offer that you do, but I'm still happy to offer what I've got.
I guess it was on the other thread that I posted that I'll either sponsor or hold the cards in August. If someone else has some robust babies ready to go in August, I'll hold the cards. If not, some of my babies should be ready to go by then, and I could send leaves.
I also posted this: "I hope we can keep it going every month. Maybe when it's too cold to be shipping plants and leaves we could still play for pots, other supplies, books, gift certificates, etc. that way we can continue to play no matter what the weather. Just a thought..."
Does that sound like a good idea to everyone?
The game itself is a blast! Let's not all get upset at the thought of what the prizes might or might not be. It's all for fun and who doesn't love to win a prize? LOL

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Amy you do not have to have plants ~ Just leaves I DO NOt have a lot of plants those that I do have been striped giving people leaves. So I added babies , book and pots in . I posted if it was leaves or plant so people could decide if they wanted it.
I know most people here other than Newbies have 35 named Av, Epscias, Gesneriads together !
But no one has to sponcor. I started the game for Fun !
I am barely caring for my plants ~ Like I told Nanna I DO NOT HAVE MANY PLANTS WITH MY NAME ON THEM . lol Or ones I am not tearing leaves off for people. I have NO room for my plants under lights. All the leaves, babies and plants I am growing to share have the light room all of it.
I either SHARE them or Trash them ~ I can not care for them/ I bought 13 leaves this year from Tina she sends one each some died. Once my leaves and babies are gone this is it NO More. I do not have the health to care for them.
I do not have many plants. I am giving them away as fast as I can.
I am sorry my sharing might have intimated anyone with less. I am not here to compete but to share what I have left and have fun .
I should not have to feel bad for sharing wether I have one more plant than anyone or 100 plants. There are many people here with more than I. And now I have given so many away there are even more people with more than I have.'
GUESS What who cares ?? Not I. The only reason I care if a person has None is to send them some :))
And I am not going to explain myself or why I share, or how many plants I have anymore. I don't feel I need to.
So please lets just enjoy the game and have fun !

Oh Lali, you feather ruffler, what's that beauty?

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok I have read all remarks on this thread and the other and folks here's the deal:

Let's all remember that this is a game, it's just a game and it should be played as a game. Here is the definition of game per Dictionary.com

An activity providing entertainment or amusement (key word is amusement)

Synonyms: entertainment, amusement, bingo, distraction, diversion, festivity, frolic, fun, jest, joke, lark, merriment, merrymaking, pastime, piddly, plan, play, recreation, romp, sport, competition, contest, match

SO LET'S KEEP THAT IN MIND!

As I said in an earlier post, I don't intend to change the guidelines, but will not have as many winners as Allison- she has way more plants than many of us have. Remember, many of us are new to collecting named AVs and are just growing our collections, Allison, Nanna and some of the others have been at it a while.

The fun is in playing and winning something we don't have, perhaps an AV that has not been brought to your attention, one that you wouldn't have noticed if someone didn't show you. If the the goal is to win a big, show ready type plant, I don't mean to be blunt, but you will likely be disappointed and might be happier if you buy the plant that you want.

I know that all of you who know me already know that I don't have big plants or big numbers of plants to give away and I figured from what I read and what Allison's guidelines stated, that leaves or baby plants/twigs would be acceptable. Allison knows what I have and didn't try to discourage me from sponsering, in fact, she has been very encouraging and kind (thank you Allison)- I am not saying that anyone has been unkind but as I read all the comments there seems to be a concern that no one will be able to top Allison's bingo- and that may be right, BUT it's not my goal to top Allison. My goal is to have some fun and share- that's always a nice feeling, isn't it? And hopefully those who play will have some fun.

Lali and Criter- this isn't directed at either of you and it's not because of anything you have posted- I love you guys and have no problem w/ either of you; PLEASE don't take this personally- it's just the tone that seems to be developing-

So let's lighten up, have some fun and remember that everybody's bingo will be different than the one before- the only thing that players have to do is have fun!

As a newbie, April used my voice and couldn't have put it better than she did. She's right. Everybody on this forum is terrific. Lets' turn the page on this one and start a new chapter on learning and having fun, shall we? Woo Hoo!!

I'm sorry, I'm just now getting back online this evening... Allison, I Dmailed you as well, but I wanted to say that nothing in our exchange was intended as criticism and until your post on this thread I had no idea you were taking it as such. I apoligize! I hate having you feel bad about anything! I had absolutely no intention of causing you hurt or of ruffling anyone's feathers.

And I'd rather let it go at that than to try any further explanation, because I must have foot in mouth disease today, LOL. Letting this thread slide right off the first page sounds good to me...

April, I am totally looking forward to your Bingo game! It's going to be great fun!! I'm heading over to your thread now, to join the excitement.... :-)
