My trip to Bluebirds

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yesterday I took a trip to Bluebirds to buy some pots. I was only supposed to buy pots but I had a little money tucked away and decided to use it on some pretty babies. So here is what I got. The first one is Ice Queen, (8192) 06/09/1995 (S. Sorano) Single white sticktite ruffled star. Dark green, plain, ovate/red back. Large She really is a beauty.

The next one is Celery. I know she is not much to look at now but wait until she blooms. I did not know it when I bought her but she is a Wasp. I can hardly wait to see her bloom.

The next one is Blue Dragon. I have wanted this one for a long time so I bought it even though it was not blooming. I will give it some TLC along with some nice AV plant food and hopefully she will be blooming in no time.

Next I will show you my Chirita Stardust. I can hardly wait until it blooms. And the leaves are so pretty too.

Now for a really pretty strep named Susi. That is what I was told her name was but I'm not sure that I agree. Does anyone know?

And a couple of days ago I got a couple of AVs from HD. They look pretty good I think. This one is called Maui.

They plants are wonderful. I have a question about Celery. Do the bustle-backed leaves develop later?

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Jesse,
Those are all beauties! I love the first one for sure.
I'm a "fluffy white" flower nut, but that Maui is stunning.

I'd say you had a pretty good day.

Jesse nice plants ! I hate to break your heart but they mis-labled Celery . There is no way that is a plant of Celery . I think they even have a picture on their web sight. I grew many and seen many Celery .
I would call them.

And info ~
Celery (Dates)
This violet looks like the vegetable. Better not grow it in the kitchen or it may end up in the turkey dressing as it can easily be mistaken for its' namesake

I'm sure they will replace it for you !

Jesse Does your Susi have a deep yellow throat ? The plant you got is beautiful but does not look like any Susi I have grown.
Here is Bluebirds pictures. and mine

Jesse you have lots of plants and need only 35 leaves ! You should sponcor a Bingo it's so much fun ! And keeps your mind off of stuff.
Did you get your First Class !

Thanks for answering my question, Allison. I didn't think the leaves look bustled.

Jesse, is Bluebirds far from you? Hope you don't have to make a long trip.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Bustles sometimes to come at maturity and fount some did not come at all , BUT even without the Bustle there is NO mistaking the foliage
of Celery nor most other Wasp plants !

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, the leaves do bustle back and are so cute. They sort of bustle back to make room for the next leaf which kind of sits in a particular part to make room for the next. They are really cool. And it is an unusual plant. It does not have "normal" AV leaves. I really think it is Celery but I'll wait and see how it blooms.

I did finally get my First Class and I love it. I want to update mine with photos that have not been put into it yet.

Bluebirds is 30 miles from me but I have to see them early in the mornings because they are out delivering plants in the afternoon. I usually deal with Jennifer, I think that is her name. She was not there yesterday and I dealt with Libbie the owner. She was not as nice as Jennifer is (in my opinion). Next time I'll call and see when Jennifer will be there.

I don't mind sponsoring a bingo but right now all that I have are one of a kind. They are growing babies though. So as soon as I have extras of things I will sponsor a bingo. I thought it was so much fun. And I'll keep my eye out for other things to be used as prizes too, like books or something like that.

Jesse

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

maybe did you post the wrong picture of Celery then Jesse ?
That's nice Jesse. I hope you know you do not need 35 baby plants. You only need 35 named plants that you can take leaves from. Beleive me they grow right back fast.
And if you don't have that many you can sub the prize for something else. That's why I added in babies, pots and a book. As I don't have many mature plants.

Here is a couple photos of the underside of Celery. It looks like the bustle that I've seen online.

There they are; the little darlings. They were hiding. Aren't they cute. Oh, gosh! (how's that for corny), I can't wait for my leaf to ear. So cute. I love the leaves.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

HHmmm Jesse you posted Celry picture here ; Jun 19, 2006

Not same plant as above.
I may be crazy off the wall but have grown many Celery plants and it still does not look like Celery. Sorry.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Celeery's foliage is Ruffled bustled longifolia foliage.
Your leaves don't look ruffled or longifolia. Your leaf looks like the edges are roling back wards ? Not another set of leaves piggy backing on the back of the leaf.
Oh I wish David Senk's / well the sight with his plant was working he has a good picture of Celery leaf.
Ok I may be able to find it some where else !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

longifolia foliage.
I am trying to post pics of Celery foliage but I keep falling asleep. lol Will later sorry

The leaves do piggy back on each other. I guess I can't get a good shot of it. But that is okay. I love my plant anyway. If it is celery great, if not, that is okay too.

Jesse, hang it there.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That's right Jesse. I just know they gave you plants marked wrong before and you like to know the correct names. I am like you I like the correct names and they have sent me some with names marked wrong.
As long as your happy thats all that maters.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah, I am okay with it. I didn't really enjoy my last trip as much and next time I'm going to go when Jennifer is there. She gives me good bargains.

Jesse

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh my. I can't believe that I did this. I do apologize for all of the confusion. If you look up at the place where I posted the picture of Celery you will see that it is the exact photo of Blue Dragon. No wonder my Celery did not look right. I have Blue Dragon labeled Celery. So here is a photo of the real Celery. I can't believe that I did this. LOL

If you look closely you can see the little ridges on the sides of the leaves. I'm sorry that I got them mixed up. Hopefully this will fix it.

Here is one more. Hopefully you can see the difference in the leaves.
