maddy,

Hey, can't read my own writing. HeHeHe
Thanks for the picture; is the ZZ flowering or is that debris just laying on the plant.

No, it's not flowering in the picture, these are just dead leaves from the trees above. (picture was taken exactly a year ago, in June = mid-winter here :-)
When it does flower, it will do so from the base of the plant, with rather typical Arum type flower with a brownish-yellow spathe. It is a member of the Araceae = Arum Lily Family).
Do not overwater it, it grows from very fleshy underground tubers. Even though it's habitat is called 'swamp forest', this does not mean it is growing in a swamp. It's growing in very sandy, well draining soil. This is just to distinguish the coastal forest from the dry forest. ;-)

I was just happily clicking about here and there doing some reading, when I came onto this thread.
Nice plant Larry!!
Maddy, I have never seen a picture of this plant in its natural habitat. I don't think that has ever been posted anywhere? This is really good information!!

I have a good size ZZ, it is sitting in a west window at my workplace and it really fills out the whole windowsill. It is nowadays flowering year around and usually has its grow spurt in Winter.

Most stores around here tell you to keep this plant on the dry site. I think it is a good idea to underpot/ they will grow out of their pots anyway. And then, under those conditions I would not let them dry out totally. I keep mine somewhat moist, but not flooded.
I posted mine here in this thread, in the meanwhile it grew some more.

I will retire next Spring, I have to make a decision what to do with this plant. I can't move it in the Winter.

you could give it to me! Not sure that's a great idea, as I would surely kill it somehow...

xxxxx, Carrie

I did manage to kill mine so I guess I probably overwatered.
