Has anyone had good results with the old fashioned rose Abraham Darby ?
I lost mine last year ,possibly not had
proper time to settle ,it was only planted in early October
I returned to the same nursery this year ,unfortunately they do
not have any at the moment
When they do, I want to be able to keep it
I believe earth mounting and rose cone is the
proper protect in this area .
Rose info needed
Oh, no! I am having my rose buds eaten off of my Quadra rose
,the top of the bud is eaten the the stem
I found a small insect that looks like a baby bee wrap in one bud
would anyone know what this could be ?
My other rose bushes close by look fine.
I've tried Abraham Darby and lost it, but I've had Heritage for about four or five years. Tried Brathwaite and lost it too after a couple of years, because I don't fuss with them for the winter. I think if you mound it up it would survive for you. The English Roses (David Austin) aren't quite hardy for us. If I used a rose cone, I would cut the top off and stuff it with leaves to protet the canes. Make sure you plant deep so the graft is well down. Mounding at least saves it so it will come back from the bottom.
I've had some problems with buds being eaten on my rugosas this year. I should be out there dusting a little powder I guess.
What am I doing still sitting here at the computer. Must get watering, the rainstorm passed us by last night.
thank you ,echoes
Now that I think about ,I am wondering I had planted the rose bush deep enough...
maybe I should try Heritage ,will see if there is any around on my next trip to the garden center
yes ,watering is on my agenda also ..no rain ..so far
I have an Abraham Darby, and it's my favourite rose in the garden. Was the first to show new growth this Spring, and it has been blooming non stop ever since May. Have had it four years now and I totally recommend this gorgeous HT.

Edited to add, stick to mordens. They will survice 3b with no probs.

True...like 3 zones. Sorry I couldn't be of help eastmetwest. :(
Don't blame you for wanting one, though. They are lovely.
Don ( I think you meant me???)
Abraham Darby is a lovely rose, and I really enjoyed it for the few years that I had it. I would consider getting it again some day, when I had more time to fuss over roses. It doesn't need as much protection as a HT, but nothing is for certain in a zone 3 winter. Not even a Morden or Explorer, but they are our best chance. In zone 6 you shouldn't have a probem growing any of them.
