LOL
My mom called those Lilies of the Nile and boy did they stink! They were gone the first time hers bloomed. When they returned I told my dad that I was sure a coyote had gotten a cat or some other critter and left the carcas up on the hill outside our door. My mom started laughing, took me outside and told me to take a whiff of the plant! EWWWWWWWWWWWW

She then cut the plant and left it in a bucket of water outside overnight. The next day she brought it in the house and no more smell! Beautiful flowers, but yuck.

Take care,

So funny! I was just looking for a place to post my pic and ask what this stinky, beautiful flower was called!!! I got a start from a neighbor.....the man next door to them sais, "It gets a beautiful purple flower but stinks like something died! There are lots of them lining his fence line. They are just blooming and will be beautiful but what a smell in his yard!:)
Here's my pic...thanks guys!

I've been looking all over the nurseries for one of those. I had one but it was in a pot on the deck and unfortunately it got too much water and fell over. Molbaks said they had some at the beginning of the season. Maybe next year.

Donna,
If you are ever up B'Ham way let me know. I can get you one. I'll just have to know when to go divide it. They have several next door just growing wild.

Hi there,

I thought it was called dragon lily, but the plant database doesn't recognize that. In any case, the flies are attracted to it and are EATEN by it! Just thought you should know.

They call it Dragon Flower

Tacoma, WA(Zone 8b)

Hi all,

I've got these things all over my garden! I enjoy them but they are taking over. If anyone in the area would like some, just let me know. I'd be happy to give them away instead of throwing them into the compost heap. Also, in my garden, these die back after flowering and setting beautiful orange seeds so the one in your pot may not have been dead.
