Hi!
I am thinking of getting a professional greenhouse for serious winter growing. I would like to know if the rion 8x24 available from Sam's club is strong enough to cope with wind and cold weather. It is made out of plastic.
Can you help please?
thank you
Anna
info on rion (sam's club) greenohouse
Anna, do a search of Dave's for "Rion". Several of us here have them. :) You would find so much more info in those posts quickly, rather than waiting for answers.
Mine is holding up well, despite being taken down last year and moved.
thank you very much Badseed.
Which one do you have? I read some bad reports about the plastic shrinking and coming off the frames and problems with the doors.
I would maybe not consider it a "professional" greenhouse but it works very well. I got an amazing amount of plants from mine this year. It is 99% plastic and the white frame is recommended for high heat as the warning was that the green could warp in the heat. I've not had any real problems with mine aside from a piece here or there cracking. Just recently one of my roof vents broke off from wind. I really don't think you can get much more for the money unless you want to build from scratch.
I have the 8x12. I am considering adding on 4 or 8 feet in length if I can't afford a commercial size one soon. Mine is very easy to heat with just a kerosene heater. I also built mine on top of two runs of railroad ties for some extra head space.
Don't forget to check the prices on them at other places. Home Depot, Target, Sam's and a few other places carry them. Also watch the prices. Some of them come with louvred windows, roof vents, shade cloths, shelves, etc. You have to watch the apples and oranges. LOL
thank you Badseed.
I have the 8X16 and so far it has been perfect for my needs. I live in N.CA. it get into the 100s here so I got the white one. No problems so far. It doesn't get very cold here though. Maybe in the 30s a couple of times a year. I got it last summer. Mine came with 4 automatic roof vents. I found putting it together a bit of a challange. We put mine on 2x6s for extra height. I think its really important that it be level.
My daugher had the 8X12 that we just recently put and extension on. It went together amazingly easy. The worst part was that they didn't send any instructions but we did it in one day.
Hope that helps.
Linda
I forgot to tell you, don't know the price of the one at Sams, but i ordered mine from the greenhouse mega store and free shipping. It came with 4 automatic roof vents, 2 windows and shade cloth.
Linda
Hi jltbaw,
Which make greenhouse do you have? It sounds good.
The rion one is aobu t$2000. Still a bit too expensive. :o(
I believe Linda is also saying she has a Rion, the white model.
It just occured to me, have you spoken to cricket? She told me where she buys hers and I can't think of the name. You might check with her.
I still think you could build a very nice one from a plan for a lot less than that with some help.
Badseed, how can I get hold of a plan?
WOW!!! thank you very much Stressbaby.
Sorry I just saw your questions.
I have the rion 8x16 in white. Mine came with 4 roof vents with auto openers, and 2 louvered windows. It was around $2000.00 delievered. The plans are really cool. You could get the exact size you want . I would have loved to have a bigger one but this is the best one in my budget and I have been totally happy with it.
Good luck Linda
