This has been a wonderful season for my clematis. I have 33 varieties and they are almost all finally mature enough to give me a glorious show. Nellie was the opening act in March & everyone else is staggering themselves to extend my viewing pleasure. LOL I am SURE that is their plan. ;~) I REALLY love clematis, can you tell? LOL
This beauty has been showing off for a couple of weeks, there are 4 planted together here, Cartmanii Joe and Lady Londesborough have already bloomed, so it is either Viticella Blue Bell or Star of India. It does not look like either to me, so maybe mismarked. Whatever the name, it sure is a beauty.
They just keep blooming
Gorgeous!
"Star of India" has large reddish-purple semi-nodding flowers with a vivid red stripe. Does yours have a noticeable stripe?
I love "Durandii" and "Pink Champagne"! That pink color is sensational! Do you grow "Pink Champagne" in full or part sun?
Thank you Meig. Shirley, there is a stripe but very faint & not on them all. I have the picture tags that came with them both and I just don't think either is dead on. But of the 2, Star of India tag is the closest. Maybe when it matures the stripe will be more vivid?
I have my Pink Champagne on the west wall of the house and it gets afternoon sun only. By 4pm the house next door is shading it. It has the softest fragrance, really pretty & floral. :~)
Sometimes it take a couple of years for the "true" color show up. Hold on to those plant labels, they still may come in handy!
I'm definitely adding "Pink Champagne" to my wish list!
Yes, I should bring those labels in, they are starting to fade. I have mentioned before that my pink champagne is fragrant to other clematis enthusiasts and they assure me I am mistaken. I may have a fluke. If you are able to start them from cuttings contact me in the Fall and I will send you some, that way you will for sure get fragrance.
