Zone ? and Black Eyed Susan ?

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Hope all is doing well, I have been working hard on my garden spot and it is coming along nicely. Hubby took me out the other day and bought a bunch of plants for the flower bed, plus a few extra things to place in it.

My question is this, hubby bought 2 Devon Cottage "Rosie Cheeks" (Dianthus Hybrid) He just loved them and they are really cute. When we got home I was going thru all the tags and noticed this one said for zone 7, I told him I wasn't sure if this one would servive and come back next year or not, being we are Zone 5b. Does anyone know anything about this plant or have you grown it?

2nd question, we bought a black eyed susan from a green house in Monroe last week and it said sun to particle shade, yesterday hubby bought one from Lowes and when I got home the tag on this one said full sun, they are the same, so now I am wondering if this will be okay in the front garden spot? In the morning north end gets the sun, then a filtering sun on the whole thing, and in the evening the south end gets the sun.

Thanks Connie

I have my Black Eyed Susans in full sun and they do just fine.

It's hard to believe that the tags could say the opposite, but they do :( my poor fickled brain LOL

For years I had been trying to grow Lavender with no success. The tags always said shade. My sister told me to try it in full sun so I did, and boy what a difference. My lavender is thriving and growing like crazy. Same with heuchera. All of mine are in full sun and doing very well.

I'm with you hemlady! I abused my poor lavender plant something awful... I left it on the porch, on it's side, all winter long... then I had the audacity to plant it in full sun with my southern facing perrenial garden... dontcha know not only did it start to grow, but it's doubled in size already!? Sometimes, you just can't trust those tags!!

cegoins... not sure on the Dianthus... I have some cheddar pinks here in my solid zone 5 garden, and we'll see how it does. I planted it in my 6b garden in PA, and it quadrupled in size there. I guess we'll find out together if the dianthus can do a zone 5 winter!

I have some Chedda Pinks and live in zone 5a.....Northern Michigan, and they grow just great in my zone.......
